    Well,
Christmas came this year thats for sure folks......got a new Pearl maple piccolo 13/3 and a smashing copper 14/5 Slingerland snare, the piccolo I kind of knew what was coming...the Copper?..hmmm well..I was told by a pal overseas that the snares are crap, the heads are crap but, if you change these it will be good.
So,,,pursesound snares , plus Remo weatherking on top and remo clear on snare side,,,and what a snare,,,A gunshot type sopund,,it Hits you HARD!!....soom of our soon (we hope!) to be gigged songs will deiffinately need this beauty,,War Drums, is a song we have thats made for this drum, it just shows...you don't have to spend E300+ for a good snare, if your careful have an idea what you hope to have soundwise and make a few adjustmebts - you can end up with a seriously good drum........

    keep rocking amigo's....ciao'...Baggio..............

    Doc,
....good stuff my man,,Ive never actually played a birch snare or birch tom, many drummers really like them and for studio work I hear they are excellent.
I do hope to add to my snare drum collection,if I ever have money that is!, would love to get the Yamaha bamboo 5/14, Marvin Smithy Smith 14/4 copper from Pearl, A NEW Slingerland Radio King 14/5 snare, and a nice gretsch 14/5 maple in exotic finish, it's a tall order...but maybe I can get them over the years.

btw Doc I didn't know you drummed aswell....!

    ciao',,,Amigo...Baggio........

ps..Anyone see me make as many spelling errors as in the first message,,,,knee me in the nuts!!

I'd recommend drumming to every bass player :D

The birch is sweet, almost sounds like a metal drum but has the warmth of a wooden snare. Loud as f*ck too :p

The Pearl Masters BRX (birch) is a f*cking lovely kit.

I'm still completely smitten with my Pearl Soprano series snare, 12 x 7 inch, 8 ply maple.

Beautiful...sounds sooo much bigger than it is...

...good stuff my man....by the way,,,the 12/7? Ive never really liked sizes in snare drums other than 14/5....and piccolos that are shallow,,but no narrower than 13inch Diam,
but,,,,since you mentioned the 12/7,,,I AM smitten by another slingerland Copper in thatt size 12/7,,it looks smashing, I don't know what it sounds like, but for $149 I think it's worth trying for, it's available on musicyo.com as was the 14/5 copper that I did buy, mind you...they never seem to have any of those 12/7's these days,,,their apparantly sold out. Any clues as to what YOUR 12/7 sounds like??...Im curious about the general style of it, even tho Im sure it and the copper will obviously be different to each other....let me know...

    ciao' amigo's...Baggio......

Well, it ain't no one-trick pony, that's for sure.

I have it tuned high-ish, lovely rap-pap-pap kinda sound out of it, with the most gorgeous ring that decays beautifully.
And if you side-stick it, jesus, the thing just explodes. Very loud.

Tune it down and you can get anything from middle of the road, standard snare sound, to really fat, funky 70's kinda sounds. Incredibly versatile snare.

Listen to the first song on Secret Samedi, by Live. It's the same snare.
Larry Mullen has used them too, among others...

Go here and listen to the Tony Fitzpatrick sample (that'd be me...) and you'll here how it sounds.
That's not a final mix, but it'll give you an idea...

    Hope that helps...
