    from unison.ie:

Dublin motorists in the capital are to be spared a dreaded congestion charge, for now at least. The Minister for Transport has said that there would be no consideration of such a charge until adequate public transport is in place. The Automobile Association says the Minister assured them that there will be no London style charge to enter Dublin city centre before the port tunnel, Luas and the Metro are operational. It means Dublin motorists won't be paying congestion charges until 2009 at the earliest - the year a Metro would be built if construction begins soon.

That's seems only fair. London has lots of very good alternatives to using your car. Dublin very obviously does not.

Whatever about for port tunnel and luas, if they are going to wait for a metro to go in, I suspsect we safe from a congestion charge until long after 2009!

I wouldn't assume anything with this government - they have told lies and completed some fantastic U-turns in the past!

Often this is perception not reality.

Over the past decade my time has been split 60/40 between dublin and london. So I hope I can comment authoritatively.
