Is it possible to sue a mortgage broker who is taking three/four months to sort out a mortgage?

unlikely, unless you've paid them a fee. No fee = no enforcable contract in most areas of law.

Why not simply go to another broker, there's plenty of them out there and they all want your business.

After a few weeks of messing around I gave up on using a broker. I found I wasn't getting the best deal anyway, so there was no point.
