Gráinne Seoige will be leaving TV3 to host Sky News Ireland's nightly news programme when it starts in Spring.
Sky News today announced that it has recruited Ireland's main news anchor, Gráinne Seoige. Gráinne will present the nightly bulletins on Sky News Ireland, Sky News' Irish news service, when it launches in Spring 2004. One of Ireland's highest-profile news presenters with more than eight years experience in broadcasting news, Gráinne will join Sky News from TV3 where she currently anchors its nightly bulletins as well as producing, writing and presenting updates throughout the day. Gráinne has also presented Ireland's only breakfast programme, Ireland AM, and the weekly current affairs programme 20/20. Nick Pollard, Head of Sky News, said: "Gráinne is a first class journalist and anchor. Her authority and experience presenting nightly news bulletins made her the perfect choice to launch Sky News' new Irish service. We are delighted to have her on board." In addition, the 300,000 Sky Digital subscribers in Ireland - as well as seven million subscribers in the UK - will be able to see a continuous loop of the programme throughout the night through Sky News Active by pressing the red button on the remote control.

i had heard that sky were lookin for her a few months ago, i also heard that she flatly turned them down. she'll be driving around in a swanky convertable methinks.

they said to her originally that they were looking for "eye candy", which she probably didnt take very well.

hmm I don't think this will change my view of Sky News, I've always found it to be some-what anti-irish when it comes to reporting about here.

If they think they can fix that by reporting 1hour a day of Irish news then I suppose all we can do is leave them off...

yeah, sky news is a terrible news service IMO, the only reason I watch it is because I dont have digital and as a result, a choice (although I do use teletext alot)

I've always really liked Euronews, I was I had access to the channel all day as its quick and simple and as far as I can see it tends not to take sides so its a good news channel...

The only Irish story I have ever seen on Euronews was one about the St. Vincent's tower not falling down... not exactly first rate journalism imho.

Yes EuroNews during one of Ireland's General Elections had a report which ended something like this.

Betie Ahearn's Fianna Fail party look set to become the next government of Ireland. What the fianna fail party is about we're not sure, we guess that it is a case of the Irish just wanting a "party".

    OMG, cringe.

tbf about Euronews, during the Iraqi war they were excellent. they took no sides and showed what they deemed right to show, unlike the 'established' news channels who did what they were told
