Well I was working all last summer in a ****e job in a hotel(Im a student) but since then Ive had a lot of trouble gettin a job since!!!

Its very strange Ive done loads of interviews and each time stating I worked in X hotel. For some strange reason I cannot get past the interview Im beginning to think employers are ringing this hotel and their giving me shiote references. Well I gave plenty of notice when I left I dont understand what the prob is??

Has any1 else out there have the same experience can an x employer screw u over becos u decide to move on!!! Where should I go from this?????

    1) Ring a company that has not given you the job or invited you back for the second interview. Ask if the reference that was given by the hotel was satisfactory, and if not why not.

    2) Ring your old boss and ask about the reference given. Worth a shot, all they can do is say no.

    3) Don't give your old job as a reference any more for future jobs. Since you're only young character references from school prinicpal/volunteer jobs/family friends/etc might be all you need if you think your old job is giving you bad references.

I think most businesses won't give a bad reference, they'll just refuse to give any kind of reference. Maybe different for hotel type jobs.

u could always ring up the old job (or get a friend to do this for you) and pretend that you are a prospective employer and here the reference they give for yourself.

    its shifty but it'd work

How on earth could it? The employer would never be any the wiser. It's your right to know what they're saying about you.
AFAIK it's against employment rules to actually bad mouth an employee in a reference, you can basically say, if they weren't a great employee, 'Jim worked here between x date and x date'. They can't say 'Oh we had to fire him because he was a bit slow at his work'.
