One of the best demo studios in the City is TrackMix , there should be a link to their site on www.instrumental.ie or www.gigsmartireland.com . Really really good quality stuff coming out of there lately. as for when you are in the studio. Best thing you can do is have the songs you are recording practiced to bits. you have to be very tight to get a good recording from a demo session. so practice yer little cotton socks off. Relax and trust in the engineer, he knows more than you and knows what he is doing. a lot of the time you are gonna be sitting around doing nothing while the kit is being set up or someong else is doing a take.
eat before you go in and bring plenty of water etc, keep the singer away from Miky stuff and cheese as it causes more mucus to be made and it may effect the voice.
Make sure you are in tune and your gear is in good nick. dont annoy the engineer all the time, let him record the music, then you can annoy him during the mix to get the sound you want. but again, trust his judgement.

You could also bring cd's of guitar or drum sounds you like in with you, to give the engineer a better idea of what you're looking for (as opposed to saying "Can the snare sound more... cloudy?" :p ) and do loads of practicing.

Make sure your gear is in good nick. Help your drummer carry his kit in first, it is the first thing to be set up and mic'd. Make sure he practices assembling it quickly and efficiently before you go in. Put new strings on your guitars and have a spare everything (within reason). Practice, practice, practice. Know your songs thoroughly. Don't play guitar when the engineer is working on the floor tom sound, etc. Oh yes, practice the songs. Don't bring in booze. Don't go in drunk. Practice the songs thoroughly. Enjoy yourself. Being in a studio is f*cking great. Take it in, relax and enjoy the experince.

Also, make sure you've practiced what you want to record thoroughly. :)

We did recording at Ashtown studios, cost us nothing because of some Garageland Gigs deal, but usually costs depending on how many songs.

www.geocities.com/flacid_ie/Chemical.mp3 is a sample of one of the songs we did there.

Guys from Blink run and record it.

The best way to record I found out is to have everything practiced, and learn to play your songs perfectly by yourself, and with say, just your drummer, so you won't have to work to hard on getting takes perfect.

Have a look at http://www.avaricestudio.com - there's rates (per instrument per song) and samples of previous work.
