I'm hanging up my minolta dynax 500i camera for a digital equivilant.

I need 28mm wide angle zoom, I'd like 24, zooming out to 200 or thereabouts.

I think I'll be spending a few quid on this one :(

    Any suggestions?

How much are you planning on spending?

    Under ˆ1000, Cheaper preferably!!!

But for the right camera I would go the distance, nothing worse than having the wrong thing when spending an extra few bob sorts it out.

I'm big into shutter priority type photo's, low light 'n stuff, defenatley manual fucos ring, I cann't stand the tele/wide thumb action!

what about something like a Canon 10D or it's cheaper brother, the 300D?

Only issue there is the 1.6x multiplier on the lens so to get 24mm you'd have to get quite a wide lens to begin with.

I think the 300D comes in at about €1500 at the moment if youre willing to go that far beyond your budget. It comes with a lens though.

Actually, the Sigma SD9 isnt bad either. My main issue with that camera is the proprietry RAW format it shoots in. Doesn't save jpegs onto the CF card. (It comes with a lens too though :D)

The 300D with 17-55mm lens is 1088 in NY Camera . As long as you are not in a hurry ! Mine's on order since November! But you would need to buy another lens to get up to 200mm.

The Camera Centre in Blanchardstown have a Sigma SD9 kit in their window for 999. Not sure why it's that cheap - they sell the 300D for about 1400! I was tempted but I'll wait for the 300D as I already have a couple of Canon lenses.

You can get a 300D from camireland.com for 60quid dearer than that and they have excellent delivery. I ordered a 300D from them during peak Christmas time and it reached me in 4 days (they state 3-5)

I tried them in December but they had run out of stock too. They seemed to agree with NY Camera in that it was difficult to get stock or confirmed delivery dates from Canon. I think you got one of the last ones.
