I took my camera up with me when I was hanggliding yesterday and managed to get some fairly steady shots taken of Dublin Bay. I took my camera up with me when I was hanggliding yesterday and managed to get some fairly steady shots taken of Dublin Bay. The light was pretty low and the January skies look quite bleak, but I think this makes the photos look more "arty". Click on the preview pics for the larger image.

1. Dublin's new Spire monument on O'Connell Street, visible in the centre of the picture in the distance. This was supposed to be erected for the turn of the millenium, but as is typical with Irish construction projects these days, it was considerably delayed.

2, 3 & 4. Pictures of Dublin Bay taken from the south. The red and white towers are the chimneys of the Poolbeg ESB power station at Ringsend, aka "The Pigeon Towers".

5 & 6. A fairly picturesque fishing boat with Howth Head in the background.

7 & 8. The Bailey lighthouse at Howth Head, marking the northernmost point of Dublin Bay. It was the last of the Irish lighthouses to be automated and remained manned until 1996.

9 & 10. Some other sea vessels that happened to be passing through.
9. 10.

The pictures were taken with a Fuji S5000 digital camera. It has a 3MP CCD and a 10x optical zoom.
