How much would you pay for a CD?

Given the general consensus that we are charged too much for CDs/DVDs etc, I got to thinking today about what price I would be prepared to pay for such items from a bricks and mortar shop, as opposed to online.

On the specific topic of CDs, how much would you pay?

I reckon €15 is a reasonable price . I've found myself shelling that out a few times recently, knowing that I could probably save a few € by buying online. Usually I buy about 85% of my music online, but I'm partial to a bit of impulse purchasing.

    What about yourselves?

id pay €15 alright, but very reluctantly. Between 10 and 15 is reasonable, but, at least as far as im concerned, shops in ireland have lost my confidence, and i will only buy stuff if i really need it (god, when will bog role be available online!!)

I'd pay up to €15 for single CD album, maximum €20 for double album, €20 for new DVD release. Nothing more than €4 for a CD single, though I dont buy these anyway.

€15 for a double CD, €10 for a normal one

But I'm unwilling to pay as I don't like CD players, MP3 players are so much better
    :p

    €12 for an album
    €15 for a double cd
    €15 for a DVD
    €3 for a single

long time before i see prices like those in an Irish shop. but i have been known to impulse buy maybe once or twice a year. albums only

I will not pay more than €10 for a CD. I'll wait for a sale or until I'm abroad on holiday if I have to. Walk into HMV in Hong Kong and you can buy the latest CD releases for about €10. So I don't see why we should pay much more than that (allowing a couple of euros extra for VAT).

That said, I'm not much into chart music so it tends to be back catalogue material and the less popular stuff that I'm buying.

I'd pay €12 for a cd album regardless of size.
A DVD should be no more than €15 .
It always baffles me why a dvd should cost more than a videotape as a dvd is cheaper to produce .

€12 for a Single CD album
€15 for a Double CD Album
    €20 for a DVD

I have one question though, are record stores allowed charge extra for the Special Edition and Limited Edition discs. A couple of years ago they cost the same but now the special edition and limited edition cost a couple of euros more, i always thought that idea was to reward the buyers of the album who rushed out and bought it first....

They can charge whatever they like, though an RRP can be issued. Any move to fix a price would be price fixing.

again i'd go up to 15euro for a CD, in fairness to Tower they sometimes have reasonable prices on new release CDS like the last Belle & Sebastian was €15.99 there, and 20 yo yos in the *other* record stores round town. at that price i have often been tempted for the couple of quid extra to buy them there and then, rather than going online and witing 4 or 5 days for delivery etc. its sometimes nice to have a CD on release day ;)

I read recently that the high street stores pay 6 euro for the average cd wholesale.
Twice this would then be a fair price.
