Attention grabbing headline, but its a good read.
Crichton talks about science and psuedo-science being used to further political agendas and a certain proliferation of junk science.

The media and journalists are the worst example of pseudo-science being mis-used.

The horrible result is evident, even on this site, where you see alot of "experts" come in clueless about the reality but willing to express the opinion and "science" that they gleamed while eating their cornflakes.

Loved the way he goes on about the nuclear war equation and complaining that scientists did know the variables.

Have the book here somewhere and they do list probable values for each of them (and unlike the Drake equation you can determine resonable upper and lower limits fairly easily.)
