was watching some strongman thing on tv over christmas, when i noticed it is called worlds strongest man. (was on everyday i think on bbc on christmas week) and it got me thinking about mark henry.

I always thought mark henry was legitimately the worlds strongest man, maybe im completely wrong and this was just a work all along. but then on reflection, ive watched this worlds strongest man program a few times before, cant remember seeing it last year tho, and have never seen mark henry on it.

    so whats the explanation:

    1) it was just a work & he was never worlds strongest man

    2) he actually was worlds strongest man last year but didnt compete on it this year.

    3) there is somehow more than 1 worlds strongest man.

The answer is #3. He won some World's Strongest Man competition run/sponsoered by Arnold Schwartzenegger that has nothing to do with the other World's Strongest Man tournament. That's all I know.

he was always called the sorld's strongest man though, was he not? Mainly due that he could deadlift 900 lbs or something crazy like that. It was more of a nickname when he came in, like "the world's most dangerous man" was scamrock

    He's ALWAYS sucked! Sorry...
His 15 minutes of fame were up quicker than John Bobbit's!
He can keep thuggin' and buggerin'! He'll be forever stinking up the ring and that Whoppi Goldberg haircut isn't gonna help him much either!

Maybe Trips can come back and have Racial angle II from Booker T to Mark Henry. That way he can squash those who deserve it.

got this of a wrestling website

Mark Henry has never won,and has never competed in,the World's Strongest Man.
Mark Henry won the strongman contest at the Arnold Classic Expo in 2002 and WWE started to call him the World's Strongest Man.
.He has competed as an Olympic lifter and powerlifter and is known fow lifting 900+ lbs in the deadlift and lifting the Thomas Inch dumbbell

Well thats complete bollocks for a start he'd been called that in WWF days as late as 1996! He'd been an (untested) olympian beforehand.

got this of wwe.com and this is true

Henry’s rise to fame began in 1992 when qualified for the Olympics in Barcelona for the weight lifting competition. He finished 10th in the Superheavyweight Division there, but three years later at the Pan American Games, Henry captured three medals and solidified his place as one of the strongest men ever to walk the planet.

Henry has split time between action in WWE and strong man competitions, including the 2002 “World’s Strongest Man” competition in Ohio, where Henry earned first prize.

I never said that he never won a worlds strongest man contest phenom. I said that he's been known as the Worlds Strongest Man since before 2002 in the WWE. As you had quoted that they started to call him the Worlds Strongest Man then.

Henry is a strong guy, no question.
He has squatted over 1000lbs in the gym so even though that is impressive we cannot be certain if it were of 'legal' powerlifting depth, still heavy though.

Here is the thing, the guy who one this years WSM is Mariusz Pudjanowski and he won it last year as well. They guy is a brilliant athlete, 6ft1 and 286lbs and only 25! He is an ex boxer and kickboker and can still do the splits and skip like a boxer at his weight. He has a 35in waist when measured around the navel, that is pretty impressive!

Now he is not as strong as Mark Henry in static strength terms and I would call neither of them the strongest man on the planet. The strongest man on the planet is the guy who can lift the most weight in a static event be it a partial deadlift, back lift or whatever.

The current WSM comps are moving more towards strength endurance with very few static strength events so it pays to have good strength but also the ability to be agile as well, Henry don't look that agile to me. For the record the strongman standard in the US is poor, the real events take place in Europe, standard is MUCH higher!

In recent times I would say Magnus ver Magnusson would really have been as close as we could accurately get to declaring the true WSM. However for me the legend of all time will always be Bill Kazmaier, this guy had it all, do a google on him.

Slightly off the topic of him being the strongest man but does any1 else think is outfit is kinda sick? I mean you can practically see the guys balls!

Certainly not the worst. I can think of a lot worse!

    1) Earthquake - early 90s... You could actually see the sides of his balls!!
    2) A - Train. One slight pull of the trunks and o'eer. I remember that happening at last years Armageddon! A sight i tried to forget :/

The WWE have always tried the "stongest man" angle - remember

Dino Bravo vs Ultimate Warrior (doing press ups - with a large man on their back - introduction of Earthquake)

    or how about

Warlord vs Bulldog (classic moment when the Slickster helped Warlord lift over 600lb!!!!!)

I doubt the guy who hosted mastermind could have lifted the chair let alone a car! :-)

Thanks man, I tried to forget the pointless waste of 30 minutes of my life when they had Dino Bravo bench step by step 712lbs at the 88 Rumble. He almost made it and all but Ventura helped pull the bar up.

It's also questionable if the weights were actually legit seeing the angle was totally worked. He was well out of shape for the strongest man in Canada if ya ask me.
