Should be in your price range in Dublin.

You should probably just go in the shops around Dublin and play some that are in your price range. Then give the nice men your notes and walk out with your favourite bass. Otherwise the Doc with be with you shortly.

    Somebody called? :p

Ahem... choosing a bass is a lot like chatting up a new woman... :D

For $300-$400 I'd steer you towards a second hand Squier (one of the better models, not the entry level Indonesian one) Jazz bass from Buy & Sell, but if you didn't like the Precision, I'd be keen to hear why (it'd make it easier to advise on alternatives). What is it about the Precision that doesn't agree with you?

Have you taken the Squier to anyone to be set up correctly? To be honest, you're not going to get anything subsatantially better than what you already have for that money. Honestly, I'd say get the Squier set up properly first, you'd be surprised how much of a difference it can make. Then play it for a bit and save money in the meantime, aim for something in the €600-€700 range where you will notice a big difference over what you already have.

Edited to include this link for bass reviews in and around your current price range - See if any of these take your fancy.

:p Just looking at that pic Feylya... it's a four string head on a five string body? :D Gotta get me two o' those :D:D:D

Looks like a 5 string bridge alright, doesn't it. Just a little bit mad methinks. Bloody LTD's. I'll ask Mr ESP UK about it. And have a look at this

Ahhhh... a real ESP. I just don't get the whole LTD thing. Not bad at all. I'd say it plays and sounds f*cking top class.

I must dig up a pic of my ESP jazz bass (64 Fender replica) for the gear post - got the sweetest tone you'll ever hear and built like a tank. Got it for £300 sh 10 years ago.

    Nice :D

Indeed nice. I'd like to see it. They've gotten rid of the ESP acoustics too. Bad call, they were nice.

Meh :dunno: looks... I dunno, it's not really rocking my boat but I'd say it plays excellently as all full on ESP's do.

Instead I'm waiting for Music 123 to deliver this

    Ah, I suppose it's alright :D

If the bastids ever get it together long enough to send it to me and not to some hacker in Alabammy... but that's a different story :D

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Damn those bloody hackers. Are you sure it was a hacker? Not just a massive cock-up on Music123's part? Gonna be looking for compo?

    If it ain't broke... :D

If yer happy then don't f*ck around with it. We will need pics however :)

Feylya, yeah it was a hacker, despite 123 telling me their orders "got mixed up". All the important info was changed to something valid (ie, the f*ckers address) but the phone number was "555555555555" :dunno:

Nah, it's not the hacker I'm p*ssed off with, it's Music 123. If they'd pulled their thumb out after I told them that my order had been tampered with then none of this shyte would've happened. They sent the bass to the wrong address five days after I told them of the address change, despite reassuring me they would send it to me. Then they didn't follow up with FedEx after I told them they were sending it to the wrong address after all. Three days later, it was delivered to the wrong address. They could've stopped it on both occasions if they'd wanted to. They suck the big one :dunno:

Hmmm, sounds like a laugh! My mate is considering getting a 5 string LTD from them for $200. Time to look elsewhere methinks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

I can't say anything positive about them. It's been over a month since I placed my order and a week since they agreed to send me a new one. I still don't have what I ordered, in fact, it (the replacement) hasn't even shipped yet. I'm still nervous because, sad and all as it may seem, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they sent it to the wrong address again. A total nightmare.

Get it from Thomann or just pay more in a shop over here. At least your mate will know where he stands.
