Bringing Sky box from UK

    Hi

I have a relation that is moving to Ireland, she has brought her Sky box over with her, however she has decided to get sky plus installed and has offered me her old sky box.

She has had the box and paid the sky sub for more than a year so it is no longer under contract. If I got her to order a freeview card using the UK address she just moved from ( post being redirected ) would that get me a card that will give me access to ITV and Channel four etc ?

    Thanks for any info.

    Sean.

Would the Subscription card not continue to receive the FTV channels when the sub is cancelled?

I know things have changed a bit since the "good ol days" but I figured as long as it was the newer dark blue viewing card, it would work?

Oops, I missed that bit. If it's a p2 card (dark blue with house as byte mentioned) it should - there's even a statement on the free2view site saying this.

Wont she need her card for the sky plus box or do they send a new one?

No, this shouldnt be a problem, she will be taking out a new sub here in Ireland so she wont have any connection with the old box or card!

On another related matter, I have a 2nd LNB which I intend to attach to my existing dish somehow. Can a twin arm be bought in Ireland or would I need to make it myself?

A quad LNB would be you best bet. I'd say it may be difficult to fit another lnb to a mini dish

    Good Value on

A second LNB on the same dish ALWAYS receives a DIFFERENT satellite, NEVER the same satellite.

A monobloc twin horn / single LNB is the same.

    ON the other hand:

A QUAD, Quattro, Dual or Twin outputs LNB has a single horn and can feed multiple devices, but only from the SAME satellite.

So a Quad and a 2nd LNB on a Dish don't do the same thing at all.

A minidish is a bit small for multiple LNBs. An 80cm dish is really the minimum.

www.satcure.co.uk will sell brackets for addon LNB (different Satellites)

    OR
www.satellite.ie will sell a Quad LNB to REPLACE the existing LNB to feed Sky to more than one receiver.

You can also make a bracket out of earth strap metal for earthing water pipes.

For 19E and 13E on 80cm dish, the LNBs are up close so can be lashed together (put pieces of plastic between to wedge 2nd LNB in place.

    Cable ties are good too.
Also small diameter wavin/pvc pipe - easy to cut to size and then use threaded rod and nuts to join on to existing bracket (or another piece of pipe on that bracket)
