    OK, Modded Dunlop CryBaby into a DS-1 into a Zoom 505-2 (gonna be removing this I think) into a Harley Benton 80W Solid State Amp. It's actually a really nice amp and quite cheap.

    This is my pedal board in this order

    PRS McCarty
    >Boss Tu-2 Tuner---->Dod 7band EQ---->Boss V-Wah---->Digitech Turboflager---->Digitech Chorus---->Boss DD-6 Delay---->Ernie Ball 6160 Volume Pedal---->Marshall Jh-1 OD/Distortion---->Boss Ns-2 Noise Gate---->Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier

    I run in this sequence direct into my amp. I don't use the FX loop of the amp my tone is better achieved running in series. I use all Planet wave cables in my entire rig. My pedals rest comfortably in a lovely flight case!!!

    Ric 4003 ---> DOD FX52 (13 year old guitar distortion pedal which doesn't suck out the low end and sounds better on a bass :) yeah, and it's pink!) ---> amp.

    I use old cables which haven't packed it in yet and I keep this pedal in the little pocket in my gig bag. :D

    If you can make that work fair play but I find that loads of pedals and wires can get annoying. I Just use my trusty Zoom 707 II pedal and whatever amp is there

    What does an EQ pedal do?
    Boss Ns-2 Noise Gate
    I just got me an Ns-1 from boss but i havent recieved it yet. What you think of yours m8 and is there much difference between the two?

    Any1?

    An EQ pedal basically shapes your sound by cutting/boosting your Lows, Mids and Highs. Just like the Bass, Mid and treble settings on an amp, except more control. Can be handy for using in a solo to make yourself heard in the mix.

    I THINK: Noise gates are used to cut out buzz when you're using mad high gain. Can also be used as a volume kill switch.

    I used to use, guitar--->Cry Baby (borrowed and given back), --->Zoom 707 (sold), --->Boss DS-1, --->Marshall GV-2 Guv'nor, --->Boss CE-5 (sold), --->amp.

    Now I just go, guitar, --->Boss GT-6, --->Marshall VS-102r (I use the amps overdrive a fair bit too, sounds creamy with the LP).

    Thinkin of putting what pedals I have left into the GT-6's effects loop. I can switch the loop in and out using the control pedal. Could be interesting.

    Now I just go, guitar, --->Boss GT-6,
    Dont you think multi effects are a nightmare onstage?

    I was playing drums in a band last year and the guitarist had some crappy Zoom thingy which had a dodgy power supply. It sounded crap (especially the distorted tones) and was as reliable as a chinese motorcycle.

    The drum thing was irrelevant except it provided a comfortable seat from where I could watch him leaning over his amp and jiggle the power cable around trying to get his guitar working during a song at a gig in Dorans :p

    - i use a crybabay and a Multi FX unit(Zoom GFX-8) these days. I used to be a bit of a pedal maniac but found playing a song started to involve a lot more choreography than I'm comfortable with! The new ones are a lot easier to program than older ones like the Boss ME-5 and the like.

    General q for yiz(I don;t hang around with any other muso's so my knowledge is quite limited) - what is the difference between running your fx between guitar and amp and having them in the effects loop?

    Cheers
    Neil

    Dont you think multi effects are a nightmare onstage?

    Not most of the bigger/newer ones. You get a few patches per bank, usually 4. You select your bank using the bank up/down pedals and then you have 4 pedals there for switching patches, plus a control pedal for switching on/off or varying effects within the active patch. You also have an expression pedal. You also don't have to cylce through effects to get to patch you cylce to the bank (the previous patch still being fully active, ie control and expression pedals still affect that patch) and when you're ready hit the patch pedal you want then everything changes seamlessly. A lot easier than having to pull of a Michael Flatley dance move on stand-alone effects.

    2003 Gibson SG Special Faded -> Boss CH-1 Super Chorus -> Robert Keeley modded Boss DS-1 Ultra -> Pignose G40V (all valve amp)

    I use a very subtle chorus if any, and it's just there as an extra.

    The Keeley pedal is brilliant - lovely sound off it, no more uber rattly pennies in a tin can distortion like the original.

    The Pignose amp is brilliant. Paid €200 for an all-valve amp, rated at 40w, but can push into 60-70. It's got a lovely bluesy and vintage sound, look and feel. I'll be replacing the speaker with a 10" celestion sometime too. You can't beat the amount of warmth on this little amp, it even makes the bridge pup on a mex strat sound warm, without mudding up anything else.

    Thomas's board

    Geetar - Boss Gt3 with a Roger Linn Adrenalinn in its aux loop - amp

    Love the simplicity of multi FX and the ability to have all my FX tied to the tempo of the tune without having to mess around on the floor between songs.

    Hope to get everything talking together in a rack this year.

    noticed some of you put your choruses and flanggers before your over drives in the chain

    dosent that make it noisey as **** when u use em both together?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

    I love the tone acheived running the flanger and chorus before the pre-amp. I don't run them in the effects loop. Theres no added noise really other then your normal 60 cycle hum. I fixed that hum long ago Dr J :)

    Even though my setup is

    Strat - - - - - > Zoom 707 - - - - - - - > whatever amp is there

    If i was going to have loads of small pedals i'd use

    Wah-Wah
    Tuner
    Overdrive/Distortion
    That's about it
