Not a great match but a costly victory for Utd with both Silvestre and O'Shea going off injured.

O'Shea did his hamstring in which means he could be out for about 3 weeks. Silvestre's looked worse, a terrible tackle from Jeffers imo, and has injured his knee. Its unknown how long he'll be out for.

With Keane missing for Sunday v Middlesborough and now these 2 it could mean utd having a very weak backline.

I think this will tempt Ferguson to buy a defender now definitely.

Ronaldo showed some excellent skill winning man of the match. When he gets the maturity to match the skills he will be some player. Klebeson was excelllen early but faded alot in the last 20 mins. I was not overly impressed by Bellion ,his first touch and control were not very good today. considering fergie made 6 changes it was a good win today but i too would be concerned at the cost of losing both O Shea and Silvester with rio due to start his ban but i presume an appeal will hold that up for a while until we either buy of get others fit again.

Great win for United, some of those tackles from Rooney were dreadful,he's a little tramp he should have been sent off

To be honest kmart I thought Jeffers was worse when he came on. He did nothing but chop people's legs, not surprising as he is still paid by Arsenal and got sent off in the Charity Shield against Utd.

I know Rio's ban may be held up by an appeal but I think the loss of Silvestre would be more devastating. I think he holds that Utd defence together and is very under rated.

Well I'm sure Wenger will be phoning Jeffers tonight saying job well done!

Ronaldo was outstanding, hopefully he can now get some consistancy under his belt now and tear apart defences week in week out.

Yeh your right about Jeffer's they cant even be classified as tackles they just went for the man.

The loss of Silvestre would be great but i would'nt say he hold's the defence together. He often get's himself into trouble in defence trying to be fancy with the ball.It was due to that today that he got injured,if he had laid it off or just hoofed it he would be grand now

Yeh he had a class game today definatly deserved MOM

I heard that United are giving him a three week break to go home to his family.

Does anybody know if there's any truth to this

I don't think I am over-rating him. Maybe it came out that way but I think hes more solid at the back for Utd than Ferdinand.

And yeah Kmart its true. Ferguson said so in an interview with MUTV (no I'm not a subscriber!) saying he'd let him recharge his batteries to have him ready for the season's run-in. He'll probably let him go when Solksjaer comes back. There was also talk of him doing a bit of a watching brief on Porto

I agree with you James, Silvester is the playing excellent football for the last 2 seasons and would be a bigger loss than Ferdinand who is now playing his best football since his move. If you frequent any of the dedicated united forums you will know that is an opinion shared by a majority of Utd fans.

From a united viewpoint its a shame if the partnership will have to be unnecessarily broken up for the rest of the season as It is the best in the premiership IMO.

Will be unfortunate yeah but Brown/Silvestre had a good run in the side last season before injuries/Rio's return etc so hopefully they can do a decent job again in the coming weeks/
