I really want to get rid of my moles on my face. Does anybody know anything about how to go about this? Where do I go? By the way? What do girls feel about moles? Do you like them, hate them, what?

A mate got one removed a few years ago from his cheek and he only has a little scar. Its almost invisible. Much preferable to a mole IMO. I don't know how women feel about them on blokes but I hate them on women. One or two are ok I suppose but anymore is a turn off for me. I don't know why but I just have an aversion to them. Beauty spots my arse!:D

It's not really cosmetic surgery I have a mole on my face. If they grow in size or change colour then go to a doctor it can become cancerous.

Ask your GP for a "minor surgery" (I think) recommendation.

For freckles. Get a tan. Or makeup.

can they be removed with lazer. If so, does this leave a scar?

Laser treatment is suppose to remove moles but red scarring on your face can be 'removed' using laser.

Laser does not scar your face, it makes the treated area a little bit pinkish/red in the initial hour after treatment and then dies down to 'normal'. I'd reckon to treat a single mole the size of a zit could be done this way in less than 5 minutes.

Cost for treatment for red scarring as a guide(dunno about moles) though depends on the size of treated area and can range from €200 for a whole chin\mouth to €500 for whole face in one session alone.
For moles, just ring up any clinic and ask for a quotation as a guide to your budget.

For laser treatment, you need to have a fair complexion for it to work properly though :)

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Adrian mole yet. Sorry.

By fair complexion do you mean white skin?

    yes.
Whiter the better(no suntan!), then the technology works better.

What do you think about lads wearing the makeup that covers moles etc. Do you think that it is strange, abnormal, gay, unattractive. Your views please!

I have a few moles, not on my face, but on my neck, and i've thought about having them removed. Sometimes i cut em when i shave, and when i get my hair cut, they always comment on em... grrr.

But on a girl, a mole would definately be a turnoff for me (sorry adrian, don't mean to hurt your feelings). But if a girl had a few moles, it'd reduce her chances a lot. One or two isn't too bad though.

Personally, i wouldn't use makeup to cover em (partially because they don't really show too much), but i suppose if i didn't have money to remove em, and if i didn;t want them as visiible, i would definately use whatever method i could to hide em/reduce their visibility.

Ok, first of all, don't take anything here as gospel, but this is how it went for me...

    Go for it!
Don't let them hold you back for a day longer than they have to (that's if you really feel self consious about it).
Go to your GP and tell him you want rid of them.
You don't even have to bullsh*t him into thinking you're worried about them being malignant. (at least I didn't)
I got a letter of referal to a plastic surgeon in a Dublin hospital, and if I'm not mistaken - I didn't pay anyone anything... although I was under 18 at the time, maybe that had something to do with it, I'm not sure.
Do you like them, hate them, what?
Well I hated the one I had, and having it lobbed off was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
What do girls feel about moles?
Well what really decided it for me was:
One day I was walking down the road (as you do), and walked past these two girls... after they'd passed and thought I was out of earshot, I heard one saying "what do you think?", to which the other replied "I don't like the mole".... that really confirmed what I'd thought for years... the first thing people notice about you is your most outstanding feature - be it good or bad.... it sounds obvious but sometimes you just don't see what those features are when you see yourself in the mirror.
Although I'm a bloke... I think it really depends on where they are and their size.
I had a 7 or 8mm mole on my cheek, hated it, got it removed.
I've still got a few (4 or 5) tiny faded ones here and there, but they're around my jaw-line... I actually like those ones.

The procedure was no big deal, you go in... lie down... get a local anesthetic injected into the target area... the surgeon draws around the mole with a marker (sounds funny I know, but it's planning ahead for the cut)... then the mole is cut out... you get a few sticthes (if the mole was large enough to warrant them).
Then you're out and about with a small white plaster covering the incision.
I'm not sure what the deal is with multiple removals though, you might have to get one done per visit or something... something to ask the GP.
The interesting thing is, there was no scab... just a clean white line where the mole used to be.
Which I suppose you could later have removed by laser(?)
The advise I was given for after-care was to stay out of the sun for a year and use plenty of moisturiser... but again that was my condition, and it'll vairy from one person to the next.

I'm not sure, but at a guess - you might have to wait for the scar to heal fully before laser treatment to get rid of the scar... can anyone provide more info on this by the way?
I still haven't gotten around to the oul' laser treatment myself.

I remember searching the net for info on this while I was still thinking about it, I'm just trying to think of what I wanted to know back then.

Ultimately just listen to yourself, friends and family will probably try to spare your feelings and it's not something you can walk up to a stranger and ask (unless you post a pic on hotornot.com!)
If it's something that pisses you off every time you look in the mirror, my advise is just go for it - it's your body, your life, your choice.

Mister Vain thanx for giving such a detailed reply. I'm seriously thinking of going to my GP. I am only 17 so i might not have to pay either. besides i think one of my moles is cancerous. It keeps changing shape. Is this very dangerous? Like i don't want to go to the doctor and pay €40 to tell me there is nothing wrong. when I say changing shape i mean sometimes hard sticking out and other times soft and flat. It's on the side of my nose. Its about 3mm squared in size (its circle shape). But it also gets a little bit bigger or a little bit smaller sometimes. The funny thing is in a picture you can't see any of my mole so it would be a bit pointless putting my picture on hotornot.com. Sounds like a fun idea though. Still no girls replying saying what they think about moles. Not a popular subject i know but come on. Please give your views.

If it changes AT ALL, you should go to see a doctor. Simple as that.

I'm in a similar situation: I too have moles that I'm worried about both for aesthetic and health reasons. I went to see a dermatologist at the end of the summer. She said she would arrange a plastic surgeon to remove them for me. Luckily my family has VHI so the surgery won't cost me a thing. I should have them removed next summer, but she told me that if they change in any way in the meantime I should have them removed sooner.. it's that serious. I don't mean to alarm you, but really, €40 is nothing in the scheme of things.
