Dell DVD Region code

I recently purchased a new super-duper Dell desktop. When you play a DVD it asks what region do you want to set the player to. It warns that you can only change the region code up to 5 times, and if you were to change the code a 5th time, that you would be stuck with that final region code selection for your DVD.

Fine, easy to follow instructions. However, is there a way to overcome this '5 changes' restriction, or, better again, is there a way to make the DVD player 'regionless'?

    Thanks in advance.

There is a program called DVD-Region Free (dont have a link handy just google it!! :D) that should solve your problem because it sounds like a you have a dvd drive thats a RPC-2 drive.

It works for my dvd rom drive.

    Hope that helps.

If you give us the make and model number we might be able to help you more.

Make and model are definately important. Usually new firmware can change rpc2 to rpc1 (which means its unlocked) I did this to mine.

Follow the steps outlined in this article. http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/articles/region.html. Worked a treat on my Dell. :)

You can get the necessary firmware update for your drive from this site: http://www.firmware-flash.com (formerly http://www.firmware.fr.st )

thats the site iwas looking for, but couldn't find. I highly recommend it. But as always, when flashing your drive, make a backup of the firmware that is in it first. Just in case.

I find www.rpc1.org the best one.....updated alot. I flashed my Pioneer A06 dvd writer and my Tosibia DVD drive to RPC-1.......a must if you buy DVDs online like me :)

    OT
Recently, Blockbuster in the UK wanted to lobby against there being regions on all players. Good luck!

Afaik most modern PC dvd drives have a "Safe mode" when flashing them goes tits up so it's usually foolproof.
