I really can't get over that.

You should have given them back and walked out.
They will continue to charge as long as we continue to pay.
I blame us. (Me and you, not Uncle Sam)

i know we should have walked out but prob was we had already drank the milk! wish i could have done like in the long kiss goodnight lol!

i buy 2 litre jugs of milk in aldi every week for 1.10 so by a rough calc the same amount from those muppets would cost bout 12 euros:rolleyes:

Its not libel if its something that actually happened! jesus scan the receipt or tell us where it is.

You need to help other people by tellin them where it is so we know what to expect if we go there (!!)

I recently bought some fries in a similar establishment. No price on the bar menu, guess how much they charged? €4.50. I had recently returned from Stockholm, thinking that maybe Ireland wasn't so expensive, and then got hit with that. I actually bought two bowls, one for me one for the Girlfriend - €9 in total. I complained, the manager agreed it was out of order but that the owner set the prices.

Next time you are in a supermarket have a look at the prices of Avonmore and Premier milk. Then have a look the blurb on the carton etc. - They are both made by Glanbia yet the Avonmore milk is usually 10c dearer !

and the sad thing is vintners have been getting away with huge mark-ups on 'soft drinks' for years. It's not as if it's a small family pub getting by ok, it's a big money making business.

I think alot of people these days are trying to afford Merc's and Bmw's etc. I saw a merc pull up to my old old primary school the other day, back in 96 when i went there people were surprised when i showed up in a 96-D mitsubishi.

Alot more people (and their families) shop in the likes BT/2 these days it seems, everybody is alot richer, alot of super normal profits going around, publicans are trying to make unbelievable profits on us normal people to keep up this type of lifestyle, it seems.

Are any pubs in dublin doing badly at the moment? No. because of the prices they charge. I doubt business is up 100% in the last 5 years, but profits + margins prolly are.

argh i am in college now, and believe me im leaving this hole as soon as i can. Im sure alot of people will follow, except for people whose parents own normal businesses like shops or pubs (and people who work in financial services). These people are fine, cos theyre ripping off the rest of us.

Unfortunatly i sound like somebody out of the socialist workers party, just an observation though. Im not.

that sort of pricing is bone crazy though in any country on the face of the earth! what is wrong with this place at all that we pay whatever they ask for in all areas from house prices to car insurance to milk for christs sakes????

    milk prices drive me daft.
    aldi e1.10 for 2 litres
    tesco e1.14 which is ok
supervalu e1.71 funny though i was in there today and its reduced to e1.12!!
    i wonder why.

another thing i use pigsback vouchers in xtravision to get half price rentals and when i suggest it 2 friends they laugh ...ahh shure its only 2.50

this is the fundamental problem if u ask me.

    ok rant over lol

Maybe the people in the Mercs and Beamers are pub owners and milk magnates, ever thought of *that*, aphex, eh? eh?

Whas that not kinda my point?
it seems every private company chooses their own prices, as they please, they seem to start by figuring out how much money they wanna waste on snob goods first, and how much profit they'll need for that.

Bit of a muppet arent you? you've quite a nerve for slagging me off and patronising me for complaining about these prices.

Back to the milk, yeah you definatly should have sent them back, i don't know if i would in your situation, at the time, but i definatly will if i get any crap like that in the future from pubs.

chill ! I think luckat is kidding

I was charged 2.50 for a glass of coke in The Goat last week (was a work party and I was designated driver). At the end of the night I figured out that it would have been cheaper to leave the car at home , get a taxi and drink my head off. The barstaff didn't seem to be bothered one way or another.

So long as Bertie continues to open pubs for party-supporters this situation (and the closed-shop) will continue. Just like the pharmacies it's a closed shop.

    Bah Humbug.:p

I wonder what the possibility would be of boycotting the White Horse for future boards beers? I've never liked the place much, and if they're ripping people off one of our own members like that, it would certainly make them pay attention if we could tell them how much business they would lose.

€3.40 for a glass of milk is inexcusable.

Good idea. In fact why not select the next venue based on the findings of the intrepid contributers to the ripoff ireland board?

The best value pub (Dublin or Nationwide?) gets the business. And gets promoted as a good place to go!

Obviously not just taking price alone into account or we could end up in some seriously scary joint where you the bouncers GIVE you a weapon on the way in
