Vodafone ripoff on text topups

*VODAFONE APPEAR TO BE CHARGING FOR TEXT TOPUPS*

I'm giving out a warning to all those people out there with Vodafone pay as you go who also use top up by text message (linked to credit card).

This is supposed to be a free service but upon checking my last few topups I get charged 13c each time!!

Since the service actually works very badly in that you have to try 3/4 times a couple of hours apart I normally have to send 3 or 4 texts. That's up 52c they are creaming off me.

I have telephone and complained on 1850208787 (so far I have been on the phone about an hour @ 15c per minute). At first they denied this saying it was "impossible after talking to our technical people" - which mean't they were either accusing me of lying or stupidty but I was able to demonstrate this on the phone at the time.

They didn't have a manager I could speak to and promised me a call back on the monday - 3 days after my initial complaint. When I called back last night they still took half an hour to connect to a manager who said they shouldn't be happening I'd be credited back my money but still no explanation so far and why this is happening.

I *URGE* everyone who uses this service to check their balance (ring *174# on their set).

Anyone tell me the best contact details for the regulator to investigate this illegal ripoff which they don't seem to be prioritizing?

By my calculations if they get 1000 top up messages (which may be only 200 people who have to repeatedly try) they are making €130 euros. If they get 1m text messages this is €130,000 in this "scam".

Please post here if you are finding the same behaviour or not. Note - do not actually do the top up (which gives vodafone more money) just the initial topup message to 087777000 the normal top up no which is supposed to be free.

Usually you will get no where unless you put it in writing to them. Threaten to go to the press.
