Degrading Work!

    So its christmas, but does that mean you have to degrade your workers so bad that they scoul at costomers?

    This morning i took my usual 3 minute drive to my local statoil for my 10 marlboro lights and when i got in i was greeted by the whole staff wearing Santa Hats. I couldnt contain myself, i started laughing on the spot at the two girls behind te deli counter who thought these hats were great fun, but when i got to the counter it was a different situation.

    Faced with a 6 foot 4 russian/swedish what ever... bloke with a very mean face on and a santa hat i made no bones about laughing at him.

    Where i work were never made do stuff like wear a stupid hat - anyone here have to do stuff at christmas or any other holliday?

    Basically it's just, "smile *squints at my badge* Adam embrace the season" which only makes me fall deeper into depression as the job is sooo badly paid!

    I remember when I worked in Dunnes (3 of us , absolutley hammered after a night out on the town , supposet o start at nine and got back homea t 8 in the morning so only 1/2 hour sleep) and told them where to place their hats lol, twas funny

    I work in Roaches stores on henry street. ABout the only degrading thing I've recieved is this pathetic pep-talks before work starts.
    Example: "Ok 'guys', I wanna see full drive on selling furniture today. Remember your (non existent) customer sales skills".

    Luckily I don't have to do any of that ****, NOT even wish customers a happy christmas,
    Only thing I gota do for christmas is go to the christmas party :D

    They don't try to make us wear hats any more in Dunnes, pity though I think it would be fun! It's prob cos we're all doing the night shift this week and that makes everyone go a little hyper/odd (I'v seen and heard some very strange things over the last 3 nights!):(

    try customer service work ppl... I had to sit there all day listening to ppl bitch at me and get so worked up that their voices go 2 octaves higher than anyone would think possible when you're just trying to help them and answer their queries... bitch of a job and then having to say "happy christmas" at the end of every call (if they haven't hung up or started hyper ventilating at that stage)

    in my shop people where that type of thing by choice which i will probably do tomorrow it being xmas eve and all that

    with regards to the staff though i like to degrade them all the time by calling them minions and other associated names :) it makes my day more fun

    I work in tesco part time on weekends to get myself through college we are encouraged to dress up or else dress up in a theme from a movie.

    It just hit me imagine somoene came in looking like tom cruize in cocktail with a pair of sunglasses and granny knickers.That would be a nice sight when gettin served on checkouts.

    (Just for the record) I dont do checkouts I stack shelves which in itself is bad but not as degrading as checkouts

    but go go go

    When I was 16, 17 I used to wear a santa hat for christmas in the supermarket I used to work in. Thing is, I did it by choice, cause I thought it was a great laugh, and when talkin to customers, it made it a lot easier, cause most of them found it good craic as well. Also, when talkin to the other staff, it was a conversation piece, and the it drove the women mad sure :D

    what is degrading about a santy hat?

    btw.. I was once told by a woman that "you ruined my childs christmas!?!?"... workin on xmas day for a phone company when all the lines went down and she had got her child a mobile for xmas.... that sort of felt degrading... I didn't personally mean to ruin her childs christmas!

    but the santy hat... I wouldn't mind that... there are alot more degrading things you could be made wear!
