NY-camera shipping problem (HELP!)

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone can help with a bit of a Christmas crisis. I ordered a camera from www.ny-camera.com on December the 4th. A few days before that I enquired with NY-camera if the camera was in stock and if I ordered now then would I have it in time for Christmas (present for girlfriend). Anyway, I was told yes on both accounts. I ordered the camera and awaited arrival. On the 10th I contacted them via email asking if shipping should take this long. The reply I got stated the following

“We are concerned about the parcel but let us wait until the end of the next week. Only then we can start a research for the parcel. . Let us know if the parcel has reached you or not.”

I waited until the 16th and outlined the parcel still hadn’t arrived and still wasn’t getting any useful information from them.

I started ringing them on the 18th and was told that they held high hopes for the package arriving before Christmas. However, they could not base these hopes and any concrete information. They outlined that they wanted to wait until today (22nd) to start a “search” for the parcel which would take a few days. This was not good enough and I demanded that the package be located ASAP. I was informed that this could not be done!

I did my own investigation for the package on Friday and found that they send the packages by Deutsche Post which issued a tracking number. However, once the package is sent overseas (it left Cologne in Germany on the 6th at 1am) it’s given a different tracking number but the Deutsche post don’t know that number (they say that as it wasn’t a Premium package they don’t keep a record once it’s left). SDS who get the package don’t keep records of the Deutsche Post numbers so they can’t tell what has happened to the package as I don’t have the Irish tracking number.

My question is this, what responsibly should NY-cameras take in this matter? They are basically saying they are trying to locate it but don’t seem to be acting with any great sense of urgency. Are they responsible for the package and I’m I in a position to ask that they refund my money until the package arrives? Can I ask that they refund my money so that I can get the present in the shop here in time for Christmas?

Finally, given the ludicrous tracking workflow that Deutsche Post and SDS seem to be using is there anyone or any company that I can ring that can find the package for me??

Any help or support is greatly appreciated.

After a recent experience, I found them very unprofessional.

We ordered a Canon from them weeek ago and heard absolutely nothing. Four days later we rang them just to see what the progress was.
The guy on the phone said, "Oh, I've just noticed it's not currently in stock" even though it was in stock when we ordered. He could not explain why we weren't notified of this change, or informed. Anything. At that point in time, NOTHING was being done about our order. It was just sitting there waiting for a camera to come in without any notification to us.

He said some more stock should be in the next day or two, and so we asked how long before it would be delivered. He said something - which I still don't understand - along the lines of, "Well, delivering between Germany and Ireland always has problems". When we said we'd just recieved an order from a rival German company in 4 days he was stumped.

    We cancelled the order anyway.

    Thanks Innisfree

Reply like this help all make a more informed decision.

May I ask which rival German company did you use?

I oredered a camera from ny-camera too just awhile ago, two weeks after ordering it I was told that a person had ordered it just before I did and there were none left. He asked if I wanted to make another choice, I took my business elsewhere.

They've really done nothing wrong, if the tracking number is entered into the german post system then they've fulfilled their part of the agreement. The pault now lies with the postal system. There's no co-operation with the global postal systems regarding tracking numbers.

Personally, this morning I recieved a package from the UK which I ordered online on the third of December - Nearly three weeks !!

Unfortunatly our postal system here is not the best. I posted a card to a friend last tuesday as of this morning it still hasn't arrived, it's only going within Dublin. Last Valentine's day my fiancee (now wife) never recieved the card I sent her, I got hers three days later.

It was camireland.com (who are a little bit pricier with most models though)

I was in a slightly similar situation a year or so ago with a company in the USA (I lived over there at the time). They mailed me a darkroom scales, which didn't work when it arrived. So, I called them about it to arrange for them to collect the faulty item from me & have another delivered (American companies are usually very good about this sort of thing).

They refused, saying that it was working when it left them, so my claim was with UPS, not them. I insisted that they were the ones to whom I had paid the money for the item. It was them who chose UPS as a carrier and that, had I been given a choice, I would have used Fed-Ex anyway. I told them that I gave them money to deliver a darkroom scales to me, and that they did not fulfill their part of the contract. I had no dealings whatsoever with UPS and, therefore, no justification for pursuing this with them. Eventually, he relented, and organised for delivery of a new scales.

I'm not qualified in business or law or anything, but I feel that whomever receives the money from you for the transaction to occur, is the one responsible if or when things go wrong. If they subcontract somebody (like a courier, postal service etc), and the fault lies with the subcontractor, then the company (not me!) can pursue the issue with the subcontractor at a later date. But, in the meantime, they have to fulfill their obligations to me, the customer, who has paid them for a service or product.

    For what it's worth!

    Norma.

    And she still married you?;)

To be fair to On Post I posted a Parcel on Monday last from Dublin to Wexford and it was recieved first post Tuesday.

Posting within Ireland is fine, infact I'd even go as far as saying it's excellent. I find problems arise when you're sending outside of the country.

    Lads

i come across with a website www.douwantit.com and they basically put your address and then give you a selection of different websites to shop. once you select any item it will calculate shipping charges to yuor country( Ireland) in my case. they seems to be ok except they charge item wise and not weight wise.

but www.computergeeks.com seems to be ok as they charge the items weight wise.

    regards

Well I just ordered from them and really hope it's not been a big mistake.

Sent them all the details they required etc and got back a very badly written e-mail from a girl who works there and speaks very little english (well so I think).

Basically says they're waiting for my camera and it'll arrive to them at the start of next week.

I'm already having a lot of hassle from an American company who I ordered from. They shipped the order, by USPS (*sigh*), no tracking or anything just an insurance number. Nothing... More nothing. Sent ANOTHER item, nothing... I paid for this item on October 30th. I also paid for, when I ordered, 4-10 day shipping. You do the math. It's been quite a while since I ordered. The resent item was sent on December 8th. Still hopeful but not looking likely. The company's not being too bad about it or anything. It's just not delivering... Why they wouldn't pay they extra DOLLAR for tracking I have absolutely no idea. It's just silly, especially after the first order going wandering.

They're gonna start a trace on it in a few days. Maybe my neighbours stole it! :p Twice!!

If it's coming from the US, it may be subject to import duty, in which case it would be held until the duty has been paid. They should have contacted you about it, though.

Unfortunately it is coming from the US. It's also coming by USPS (United States Postal Service) which means it actually goes through Germany first.

The company who handles it is GLS Ireland. I've contacted them and they don't have it, as far as they know. And I've not been contacted.

Anyhow back to NY-camera. My camera was shipped this morning which is great. I just haven't a clue how to track it, does anyone one?

They gave me a tracking number that looks like: "12.34567 1234 5" and I've tried putting that in in deutschepost's website but it doesn't work. I was told they ship by deutschepost, was I told wrong? (I was told this by a friend of mine) Oddly enough their e-mail tells me nothing of how to track the item. Just that it's been sent and that's the tracking number. :p Ah well... Can't seem to see anything on their website about it either.

My cam arrived on Dec 31st, having shipped from NY-Camera on Dec 18th.

All seems perfect with it so far and im very happy, except that it comes with a rechargeable Lithium battery but no charger?! Tho any 3v adapter with correct polarity will work apparently-i tried one I have, and the camera doesnt indicate any charging happening... and actually crashed when I changed modes while plugged in... Tho its possiblly the adapter I think.

Eitherway, doesnt matter as the supplied battery is supposed to be good for a max of 100shots. I found a review on dpreview.com saying it needs min of 1850mah rechargeables as is fairly power hungry, so I went onto Ebay.co.uk, and yesterday morning I received my 4pack of 2200mah rechargeable NiMH batteries, fast charger, &car cigarrete adapter for the charger... all for €36 delivered. SORTED! :)
