Hi, I'm doing my research report on editing styles. Not solely different editing styles. Anyway, I was wondering if any editor/media job related person would take the time to answer as much of the questionnaire below.

I want to get as broad a view on the subject as possible, and please dont lock this and tell me to go off and analyse the films myself.... It's a research report, people here along with the editors themselves are my primary sources.

Dustaz if you have a reason to lock it well do.

If you dont want to give out too many detals to the public about your work etc feel free to e-mail the answers to johnloughman@yifm.com

    Thanks for any help.

    John

P.S. Sorry for the crappy formatting.

    Questionnaire

    1. Can you introduce yourself and explain what you do?
    2. How did you get into editing?
    3. When editing do you feel you have the ability to experiment or do you just follow direction?
    4. Have you seen any major changes in the style and the way in which films can be edited in your career to date?
    5. How important do you think the role of an editor is in the process of creating a finished piece of media?
    6. Do you think the editor has a lot of control when working on a production?
    7. How would you describe the style of editing in:

    a. Casablanca
    b. Die Hard
    c. Gladiator
    d. GoodFellas

    8. Do you think that the style of editing in the above films lends well to the story telling aspect of the film?
    9. Do you particularly admire the editing in any of the above pieces, why?

    Cheers again.

If you call up various video companies you'll probably be able to interview/have a chat with editors/art directors etc... and it'd be much more useful.

There's a good director of companies here:

When it comes to research old fashioned phone calls are unrivaled.
