I meant to report on this before now as it is 2 Sundays ago since myself and a mate went in on Sunday evening at about 6 p.m. for the €40 rebuy tourney. A bit pricey but I decided my max spend would be €120 (buy-in, 1 rebuy and a top-up).
Anyway we walk in the door and who is sitting waiting for the tourney to start, only Noel Furlong. Well we had to take the opportunity to talk to an ex-champ. We chatted to him about Vegas and the year he won the world series (1999). Interesting but he kept saying it was mainly luck which in his case I doubt but it was cool to chat to him.
So the tourney begins and as other players have experienced the rebuy period is annoying. It is to me anyway. Well we both survived through to the freezout period, in my case with my budget spent. We both got to the final table. I had been playing the same table as Noel Furlong all night and here I was sitting with him in the final 9. A €40 rebuy game is pretty cheap stuff to him I'm sure because he did rebuy a few times and each time he produced what looked like a deck of €50 cards every time he had to rebuy.
Anway his game is agressive and he does put it up to you every now and again by going all-in. Unfortunately for Noel he got caught out eventually and went out about 7th I think. So both me and my mate could now say we had done better than a former champ :)
On with the tourney and my mate goes out 6th, one off the prize money. At this point we learnt a new term in poker. Being one off the prize money is called "The Bubble". Luke, the casino manager, runs a good casino in my view. In January he has a Bubble Tourney for all players who go out as The Bubble in tournements. So my mate was not totally dejected.
For my part I watched in amazement as 2 guys with more chips than me got entagled with other large stacks and suddenly I was in the final 3. With such low chips I went all-in with KQ and lost to an Ace on the river. 3rd place and €300 Euro made the night a profit and now I know it's not a complete waste of time.
I was down with the flu last thursday and my mate went in for the free €10 rebuy qualifier for the €250 big one the same night. Apparently they also held two 10 player games of €30 for entry also. So the thursday of the big tourney sounds like a good, buzzing night.
For my part I want to try the Monday night €100 euro freezout sometime just to avoid the annoying rebuy period I dislike so much. Other than that you can't beat the cheap thursday nights so cyas there sometime.
