Right, a friend of mine swears that both O2 amd Vodafone will not give him a billpay phone because he's under 21.
He's in full time employment for over 6 months and has everything else.
I believe he's incorrect as when I checked into getting a bill phone for myself when I was 19th O2 said no problem what so-ever.

You're right, there's no such restriction.

You need to be 18, have a bank account, 1 form of photo ID (passport or driving licence) and a utility bill in your name. That's it. :)

Its true there should be no restriction. However, from my time working in a phone store I found all sorts of weird requirements from seemingly dependable customers.

I even remember one time getting told direct debit and a €50 deposit was required for the owner of the store, she wanted a second phone and had been with Eircell since they had the 6 digits after the 087 time (very early).

Eircell and Esat were very inconsistent with their requirements and remember the store losing some valuable customers because of it.

Not sure how much has changed.

I know for a fact that Vodafone have a flat procedure across the range. Whether you're upgrading, migrating, switching providers or a new customer, you must follow the guidelines as above. :)

Well my work ID was sneered at (and no the picture wasn't that bad :p ) when I tried to get a Vodafone bill phone two years ago.

They eventually gave it to me after I provided part-time student ID as well. I don't drive and my passport needed renewing. No deposit was required, but they insisted on a direct debit.

You need a photo ID, that being a passport, driving license and the likes.

You need a proof of address, that being a utility bill of some sorts or a driving license.

You will be required to pay by direct debit, so a bank account or credit card is required.

    You must be over 18.

These are the minimum requirements and your current employment situation etc will be taken into account. It is likely that if you are young and have been in employment for a very short period of time, they may ask you for a deposit on the account. Normally around 100 euro and is held for 6 months. They very rarely reject an application unless they do not meet the basic requirments or have a history.
