Meteor Rip-Off - Need Network Access Code!

Right so - i've ported from meteor to vodafone and kept my 085 number. Over the last two years I've spent maybe €400 with meteor. I upgraded in the summer and I've only spent €40 since then. I need my phone unlocked to complete the port but They won't give me the network access code until I pay another €90 to make up their €130 fee. They're trying to say all the credit I bought in the past prior to my upgrade (in which I kept the same number) means absolutely nothing! They insist I have to pay another €90 before they'll give me the network access code to unlock the phone. i have no network now - meteor have cut me off and the vodafone sim card is useless while the phone is locked

Personally I think this is a big pile of ****e, not to mention a rip off - it's not like the upgrade was free - i only got a €10 discount off the rrp
Can anyone help me unlock this phone, it's a sagem my x5.

Hate to say it man, but thats standard procedure for all Pre-Pay phones.

Its only top up since the upgrade that counts, as the handset was subsidised on the basis that you would be locked to the Network for another minimum €130 spend.

Sagem wont be the easiest to get Unlocked though.
I know of somewhere to get the required equipement to unlock them, but I havent gotten full details yet.

It will be next Tuesday though before I get a chance to check it out any further as I am snowed under with projects in college at the moment.

Off-topic, but may I ask why you moved to Vodafone?
Why not O2? They are the best all round imho if you take into account Meteors recent network problems, and lack of coverage in certain areas(though I rarely experience problems, living in Dublin, And over the past year Ive travelled to Waterford, Galway, Belfast without problems.).
O2 are also much better value than Vodafone, even moreso afte their recent extending of Pre-pay Off-Peak to 16hours a day and reduction in rates.

And don't forget 250 free webtexts a month to any number with O2 :)

both o2 and vodafone are more expensive than meteor, i checked the tariffs for both networks and found it to be much of a muchness really....... I travel a lot outside of the country these days so just went for vodafone who probably have the biggest worldwide network

Funnily enough, afaik, thats actually the approximate cost of gaining one customer, when all costs are taken into account- Subsidy of handset, advertising, retail and Customer Care providing info/help prior to joining the network etc etc.

And, as for the Prices being "Much of muchness", I would have to disagree, in that I believe O2 Prices are cheaper than Vodafone, at least from when I last checked their respective websites about 2 weeks ago.

O2 Online texting is also a great service, particularly if you work at a computer or are in college(Or if you do both like me ;) ). And the new version that they launched a few months ago, now lets you store all your numbers as names and you simply click the name rather than having to enter the phone number each time. And your 250 text can be used for Group or Single SMS. Very useful, saves me a nice bit of money each month(has stopped me going over my free bill amount from work!)

You mention you travel out of the country a lot. Have you checked the roaming rates of O2 and Vodafone?

I think youll find that O2 Rates are actually significantly cheaper than Vodafone as well.

Enjoy paying 65cent per text message when abroad with Vodafone(O2 are 44c; Meteor 20-35c:varies on network&country, average of 30c)!!

You also get fcuked royally for calls when you dont use a Vodafone network, and its even not great when you do.

Basicly, if ive not made it clear already, I hate Vodafone!, and always have since I bought my first mobile just over 5 years ago - but with good reasons -as detailed above

    Making/Receiving Calls on Prepay (Europe):
    O2 - €1.20/min
    Vodafone - €0.99
    (on Vodafone network)
    Vodafone - €1.59
    (non-Voda network)

    Text Message:
    O2 - €0.44
    Voda - €0.49

    O2 Speakeasy charges..
    Vodafone Ready To Go Charges..

The Pay Monthly ones are all over the place, so if you want them you can look em up!
