    Just read this from RTE

It appears that Iran could be entitled to up to $100bn from being invaded by Iraq.

The reparation is supported by Iraqi clerics and by some in the UN.

As Kuwait received billions from Iraq in war payments, surely Iran which suffered alot worse be entitled to the same ?

This dont bode well for George Bush, a huge proportion of the money from oil revenues will be going to a member of the 'Axis Of Evil' rather than Texan oil companies bank accounts :D

Not the first country to be demanding large payments from Iraq. Saudia Arabia is already demanding $30 billion or so, and the US are assisting them in getting it (which technically they shouldn't be legally able to do):

And Iraq can claim damages for when Israel attacked them in 1984.

Oh, as occupying power, the US is responsible for Iraqs debts to third parties (tehy can reclaim it from Iraq though).

Is there a statute of limitations on the carry-on?

Statutes of Limitations are domestic and I've never heard of them in International Law. About the only thing that puts a limit on claims is a peace treaty (whether voluntary or imposed).

I would imagine that the US will either ignore it or bicker about it until they hand over power to the Iraqis in which event it will no longer be the US's problem. Either way, I don't think the Iranians will be seeing much cash from either party any time soon.
