As I stagger home these cold might I often look up at the stars / constellations. Some, like the Plough are obvious. Where can I get an updated map of what I'm seeing? Online?

    Victor,

try cartes du ciel (sky charts) it is an excelent program, which 'updates' every second. It is a realtime replresentation of the sky.

also a smal planisphere might suit you, would fit in your coat pocket, so you always have a starchart on you

p.s. the plough is not a constelation, it is an asterism, i.e. it is a recognizable part of a larger whole (constelation, great bear, ursa major)
