Is there any point in getting a friend of mine to pick me up a laptop in america?

would there be much difference in the value?

    - go for it, there's big savings to be made on anything computer-related over there. I picked up an 18-inch Dell monitor for about 350 Euro and an M-Audio soundcard for i think it was 120 euro last summer for example. The best thing about laptops is that customs very rarely ask about them because so many people bring them thru, so the chances of gettting stung for import tax are virtually nil as long as your mate doesn't do anything stupid like leave the packaging on!:)
