I'm trying to fix a troublesome internet connection. Modem keeps disconnecting at random intervals. Sometimes after about 20 mins sometimes sooner.
Its a Rockwell RP56D /Sp ASI slot modem.
Running win98, connecting to eircom 1892150150. Tried different user accounts to log on.Still same problem. phone line works ok with other machines.
Had trouble finding the exact driver. Using generic driver off the conexant/Rockwell site. No viruses detected using AVG, not long after a fresh OS install. Really bugging me now!

were the other machines/modems running also for 20 mins and did you experience any disconnects with them in "random intervals" if so tis an eircom problem. used to have those problems before we switched to esat. Give the esat number a try and see if it disconnects you? no. is: 1890 924 042

If you're out in the "country" or have a bad line this could be causing your problems. Found some drivers here Driver Guide have you tried any of those?

have you tried the modem in another machine?

give the esat number a go, and if it doesn't give you any problem, it might be a problem with the way yourmodem is trying to communicate with the eircom modems.

also try manually forcing v90 if it's a v92 modem, as eircom don't support v92. 99% of the time a v92 modem with autonegotiate down to v90 with no user intervention, but if you don't have the exact modem driver, it might not be able to manage it.

go into phone & modem options > modem properties > advanced (i think, brains going rusty. if that doesn't get you to the 'extra settings' box, have a look around, you'll find it in there somewhere).

anyway, in the extra settings box, add this: AT&F&C1&D2+MS=v90,0 and see how you go with that.
