At the risk of sounding stupid How do I go about receiving Freeview? Reading the other postings Im stumped. I was going to try to install a freeview receiver in Navan but am trying to find out how to go about doing it from scratch.
I have the normal terrestrial channels tuned in ok and was going to order a Goodmans freeview receiver. Any advice on how to go about getting the freeview channels would be greatly appreciated :D

go up to Argos in Newry. Buy a cheapo Bush box for £49.

    plug it in.

It might work. It might not.

you won't know unless you try.

First question should be, just how good is your analogue terrestrial reception? If its is very good, then you might be able. If its any worse or patchy, no chance really.

Reception is good only slightly patchy in warmer weather.
Is it as simple as recieving it on the existing aerial and if so Nice one.
Think the nearest booster is somewhere in the morne mountains for uk tv. At least thats where Ive pointed the aerial and it works.

I would say (having tried before) that its a non-runner for you.

Only the main transmitters; Divis, Brougher and Limavady currently broadcast DTT in the North, and none of the little filler relays, like Kilkeel or Camlough do. Divis is Horizontal, while Camlough and Kilkeel are vertical. Check you aerial first.

If Analogue reception is only patchy, then I'd say you have no chance. :( I'd only consider getting DTT from the north if analogue was crystal clear.

    HTH,

    DMC.

My sister and Mum live in Letterkenny and have pretty good analogue reception on BBC/UTV/CH4. Anyone know if they could get Freeview?
    Thanks

I tried in Letterkenny with no luck picked up two muxes but they were useless ones. As far as I remember there was some other analog signal cutting over the BBC muxes

With the amount of low powered relays for RTÉ in Donegal, I'm not surprised.

The problem receiving DTT from Limavady in Letterkenny is that TV3 and TG4 from Truskmore use the same frequencies as two Limavady multiplexes.

As for the possibility of receiving Freeview in Navan, the aerial needs to be aimed at either Divis or Brougher Mountain. If it is, then for the distance a receiver with a sensitive tuner would be a must - any of the Setpal boxes or the latest Phillips box are said to be the most sensitive to weak DTT signals.

The advice of buying one from Argos is incorrect - their 16 day money back offer excludes DTT/Freeview set top boxes.
