get a graphics card, double your ram, and it'd be an allright piece of hardware, or better again stay away from dell, and save your self some money

he's comparing the pcworld laptop to the dell one.

my advice would be have a look on www.elara.ie they have good laptop's at good prices and our certainly better build quality than pcworld and dell

Inspiron 8600.. so its got WideScreen, DX9 gfx, Centrino etc? Looked (briefly) on Elara and couldnt similar spec, gotta link?

Ive heard lots of good things about the I8600.

    Matt

PS: Whats nice about some Dells is you can upgrade the GFX later, see the Dell Forums.

    Actually think Ive found it:

    http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4.do?dau22.oid=3837&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&ctx1=UK&crc=3648353291
    Elara Link: http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=ECE885123&productID=
    Dell Link (unconfigured): http://commerce.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config/frameset.asp?c=1636&n=4820&b=46625&m=eur&cu=iedhs&l=en&s=iedhs&store=iedhs&sbc=iedhsinspn&v=d

I configured the Dell the same as the Acer excect the Dell has a second battery (Offer on at the moment, about €80 value) and GeforceFX 5200 64MB instead of the Radeon 9200 64MB (the Dell offers higher end GFX, the Acer doesnt). Both the FX5200 and Radeon 9200 are bottom end cards.

Both units are equipped with DVD-CDRW drives (ie not DVD Burners). Warranty wise, the Dell had 1 Year European Collect and Return Service, for the 3 Year version add €74.

    The prices?

Elara: € 1,997.48 Incl. VAT, but NOT inc Delivery
    Dell: € 1,822.61(incl. VAT & Delivery)

The Dell is cheaper and offers configurability (major benefit in my book is the option of a brand new Radeon 9600 in the Dell)!?
