Question for people who are more ofay with this kind of thing.

Im looking to get an analog synth for live and recorded use. It'll be my first synth. Im looking for one that gives a good 80's smiths esque type sound along with the kinda cooper temple clause and music's thype of sounds.

I have played around with the KorgMicro Synth thats relatively new out and was quite impressed with its ease of use and range particularly for its, what i can tell, bargin basement price.

Does anyone have a recommendation for me, and in particularly any music retailler in the dublin city area i would get good advice from competent salesmen?

Have been in music maker already and the keyboard fella was very good but i wanna get real users opinions. Anyone?

    All help apreciated.

I have never used a real analogue synth though plenty of plug-in versions! If you want a good idea of whats what and what real work users think then head over to
    harmony central

The curent pic of the bunch is proberly something like the
Access Virus range something from Novation -

For what its worth, I use a Yamaha Motif 7 synth upgraded with a PLG150AN Analog Modelling board. MP3 demo of the sounds here. This is definitely not a budget solution, though. The Motif Rack version costs €1000 plus about €165 for the modelling board. Unfortunately I have no experience of other analog or modelling synths.

    Good luck in your search!

If you can find one, the Roland JX-3P was a nice little analogue synth particularly if you managed to get the editing box with it.

If you have the money try the big brother the JX-8P.

Although I believe the Smiths didn't use a synth.

The JX3P and JX8P are really nice (as Pete says esp with the PG programmers) but if it's you're first synth and your only exposure so far is to a modern synth (the Korg Micro) then you're probably better off going for a modern analogue modelled synth - more features, memories, better MIDI etc. You don't say what you're budget is. The Virus range is nice kit but pricey. Are you looking to program the sounds yourself or mainly use presets?

If there are any left I'd go for one of these ->

dirt cheap and sounds and plays great. So good we bought 2 ;-) however it's only 49 keys.
