what date is the fest on this year

Most of these bands seem to be pulled out of your ass since there is absolutely no confirmation or indication that they will be playing. And Radiohead playing Slane? Thats unlikely.

David Bowie, Muse and The Darkness are the very likely candidates for next year's Witnness since it twins with Scotland's T in the Park, a festival which all bands have confirmed to play. The Strokes and Travis seem likely too, doubt we'll see Damien Rice again.

That said, it should be held 10/11 July 2004.

Hehehe that was myself and two of my mates. In A3 near the urinal at the back of the site. Ahhh the memories, just so you know there was a lot of alcohol consumed...some guy called Deco....who was drinking Lindo(Lindon Town). My mates are fairly staunch anti cider drinkers so they decided that would be a good chant. Well it seemed good at the time...

pretty sure theres no chance of radiohead playing at slane,
alot of them bands are likely to play witness though, hope muse will be there dying to see them live, snow patrol too.

witness is changing its name this year(not confusing it with reading ireland), i'm not sure why, might be because of the new laws governing alchoholic drinks sponsering music events like guinness and witness??

maybe guinness aren't sponsering it this year?
gonna go on the beer properly this year

well make sure ya bring all your own beer, the stuff there is a fiver a pint and is i'd say about 80% water and 20% drink, oh and some form of cooler if its a hot weekend, all my beer was at boiling point last year, wasnt nice but was drunk all the same :)
any1 hear that guy in campsite A shoutin "Deco Loves The Lindo!!!"

yeh heard that too was in a3 aswell, we created a bit of a mess and heard our neighbours complaining about it, sorry if it affected you, have bin bags ready for this year :)

Maybe they'll change it from Witnness to Witness.
Two "n"s in Guinness = two in witnness

Also I really hope it's moved back to Fairyhouse.

Someone PLEASE tell me that a rumour I heard about Witnness being held in Cork is false.Punchestown or Fairyhouse have to be the more likely venues.

i do believe its in punchestown again this year, there was plans to move it around the country every two years but i didnt hear anymore on this.

as for cork you might have heard about witnness's other gigs, they do small gigs with bands in belfast cork galway and dublin so i suspect thats what you heard about.

muse and the frames would be nice to see there.
3 days camping again this year.....cant wait was some laugh last year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭talking_walnut

They should move it 2 Galway so I don't gotta go nowhere :D

Seriously tho, anyone remember the old Heineken green energy weekend yoke that used to go on. They should bring that back. It was great crack.

I heard Bowie and the Darkness were headling as well (cant for the life of me remember where I heard it tho). Id say theres as much chance of AC/DC and Aerosmith playing as me going if they do. Theyre crap and theyll probably cost a fortune so theyll hike the ticket price up even more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

yeh dont like either of them either but witness is that one weekend in the summer where ya get away from it all and relax and drink for 3 days solid, tis class, unmissable stuff.

besides there'll be alternative bands on at the same time as darkness and bowie so ya can go watch something else when there on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

Witnness was originally meant to be in the Tramore Race Ground a few years ago. Anyone remember that? There was a big write up about it in the Star.

    Re:Name Change

heard they are changing name to reading ireland also, how poxy is that?
why do we have to copy them??you dont see T in the park being called Reading Scotland??

Would like to see System of a down or audioslave play,In Flames would be welcome also as would snow patrol and kings of leon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭Rabies

Witnness will no longer go by that name. Guinness are not going to sponser it this year. O2 are the main sponsers now.

It is definitly on in Punchestown this year

no it's being changed to oxygen because O2 are sponsering it rather than Guinness

Reading Ireland is a festival in August to be twinned with Reading and Leeds. They could call it just the Stradbally festival but that sounds pretty ****

how much are 2 day tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

nah dont really like bowie either.

2 day tickets and canping were around €160 last year, i think, not sure with just 2 days tickets costing €120 again i think, not sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭anthonymcg

I reckon we all call it Witnness anyway. I can't be arsed learning a new name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,373 ✭✭✭Executive Steve

thats a seriously boring lineup... they get worse every year... what happened to variety?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

i wouldnt read much into any line up and this stage, really is all just rumours, witness always has a decent variety and then theres the camping with a tent full of drink.....sweet :)

Bowie is genuis,he was awesome in The Point. He would put on a amazing show.

Would be great if The White Stripes played and The Cure would be a laugh as well

    Whats wrong with Cork, boy!!
They should move it 2 Galway so I don't gotta go nowhere

Ah but then the Dubs would have to get off their lazy arses to go to a gig, now that would never happen would it.

I've been to Witnness in Fairyhouse and Puchestown. Puchestown is much easier to get to so I'm delighted its going to be there again this year, however I didn't like that stage on tarmac last year beside the dance stage. Not that easy to stand on compared to grass and not much fun to fall on.

Oxygen, how lame a name is that!!!

And finally, Bowie will rock, you can be guaranteed a brilliant performance. Please not the Frames again, they're great but too much of a good thing and all that...

    What's in a name?

A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.

There's a load of shyt about it being sponsored by an alcoholic drinks company, some new law about adveristing to minors and the result is that, were it to remain sponsored by Guinness, it would be over 18's only.

Which would suck (and I'm in my late 20's btw).

It'll be in Punchestown but the whole name change thing also sucks. Sucky sucks.

IT sounds as stupid as London ireland or Liverpool Ireland.

It's all corporate bullshyt, probably so they can afford those fat-cat Pixies, who are, I am told, confirmed.

Not allowing drinks companies to sponsor things is bull****. In our college, drinks companies are no longer allowed sponsor club events, which means it's way harder to stage them. The result? Students have even less of an alternative to the pub scene.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭imp

They've done something similar in my college too (TCD). Drinks companies aren't allowed to sponsor events in kind (i.e. they can't sponsor with beer), but they're allowed give money which will, in turn, be used to buy beer. Foolproof.

although they are supporting the chilli's in june the pixies are playing the t in the park fest on the 10th so by logic that means the 11th of july they will headline one of the 2 main stages at witnness? or support bowie who is going to be appearing on their dvd due out in the summer
