    Some small edits-
VINNIE Jones, the footballer turned actor, slapped a passenger in the face and threatened to murder the cabin crew during a drunken rampage in the first-class cabin of an airliner.

The former Wimbledon player screamed obscenities at Stephen Driscoll after he asked him to stop pestering a woman, a court heard Friday.

Jones (38) then slapped Mr Driscoll around the face and pushed his head into a window of the first-class compartment of the Virgin Atlantic aircraft.

Magistrates sentenced Jones to 80 hours of community service after he admitted the air rage offences and fined a total of stg£1,100 (€1,600). The sentence was criticised by the airline pilots' union Balpa.

The court was told that when aircrew tried to calm the star of 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', he screamed at them: "I can get you murdered, I can get the whole crew murdered for £3,000."

It was only when Jones passed out in his seat that the peace returned to the London to Tokyo flight on May 31.

Uxbridge magistrates' court heard how trouble began three hours into the flight. Jones was involved in a conversation with a group of film makers from Carlton TV at the bar of the aircraft.

Things turned nasty when the only woman in the group, Louise Pedersen, returned to her seat because she felt Jones had became "boorish", said Gillian Travers, for the prosecution.

Ms Travers said: "He wished to continue talking to her and went to where she was sitting and put a plate of food in her lap and told her to go to the bar.

"A gentleman told him to go. Jones became instantly outraged at being told what to do and his reaction was evidence of the amount of drink he had taken. He became abusive, aggressive and physically violent."

The court heard how 10 minutes after the first incident Jones again flew into a rage after thinking he had received a disapproving look from Mr Driscoll. Miss Travers said: "Mr Jones grabbed him and subjected to a tirade or abuse. Staff tried to calm him down."

Jones was ordered to pay £300 compensation to Mr Driscoll, who he admitted assaulting, and fined another £500 for an offence of using threatening words or behaviour towards the cabin crew. He was also ordered to pay £300 in costs.

I'm amazed he got off so lightly, I'd have him walk the wing....

    Mike.

    so he's just a slapper..

For someone who needs to maintain a hard man image for marketing reasons this really amounts to cheap publicity.

pffft!- haven't we all done that?

I mean, might as well say he slapped one of those air wenches on the ass whilst demanding more drink. Then proceeding to run up to the cockpit and scream at the captain that there were 4 Mig31 Firefox's on his six. Standard passanger procedure I would have thought...maybe I'm wrong.
