Ice makes chewing gum very hard and fragile, not sure what it will do to leather.

Similarly I've heard that putting clothes with chewing gum stuck in them into the freezer will leave it easier to get off

Ask in a leather shop. There must be a chemical which will dissolve just the gum.

Do what I did with my suede coat - get some brown paper, or something similar, and place an iron on top on of it - the chewgum will stick to the paper and come off the coat - vary the heat of the iron (starting off with the lowest first obviously) until you get the best temperature without ruining the leather.

    Sinecure

Be very careful putting clothes in freezers. Denim wear is knownb to break after being left in the freezer (especailly if you shake them when taking them out).

Was this when you were on your way to a good religious boys school in 1945 after walking barefoot in the snow to the bus stop.

Didnt realise anybody called them satchels anymore

Yes exactly. The word satchel is such a pisstake word. Perhaps her parents force her to call it a satchel and send her off barefoot in the snow to a catholic school for boys as punishment for not being the son they wanted instead.

As for putting things in freezers - now that the cold weather is upon us, here is a seasonal jape that you may wish to play on your yuletide visitors:

Pretend that you are fussy about your carpets and that guests must remove their shoes at the front door. When you have them sitting in the drawing room, get up to go out to the kitchen on the pretext of making the tea. On your way, take their shoes from the hall. Carefully rinse their shoes in cold water and leave a thin film of water on the inside of the shoes. Pop them in the freezer and return with the tea on a nice silver tray.

After a few hours, the shoes should be nicely solidifed. Arrange a similar excuse prior to your guests leaving, in order to allow you to return the shoes from the freezer to the place where your guests removed their shoes. Enjoy the look of discomfort on your guests' faces as you send them off into the night with rock solid and sub-zero footwear.
