pci tv card

    if i bought a cheap tv pci card and connected my satellite dish to it would i receive digital channels. pc world often sell a tv cards for 40 euro-would this suffice?
    all help appreciated.

    I think those are analog tv tuner cards that your talking about. You would need either a skystar 2 pci card - which would cost approx. €80-90 delivered or skystar 1/Hauppauge Nexus card - the latter are more expensive but have more resources on the card itself. The ss2 means less outlay initially but my 1.1 GHZ 768MB PC sometimes finds it a challenge to run ie. it chews up 100% CPU resources.

    it really depends on how much messing around you plan on doing. if you just want something to put (and record) tv stuff on your PC then just about any of the cards will do as long as you have a decoder for said satellite and don't mind manually changing the channels yourself when you want to record something different.

    so what functions are you missing out on if you buy a 40€ card, as opposed to a 150€ wintv card ?

    The 40 E card is just like having a normal TV in your PC. I have 2 from Hauppage I'm just feeding $ky box and DVD directly in. Very good picture!!!! :):):)
