Digibox Giving Trouble

My silver and black Pace box is causing problems. When I got up this morning and switched on the tv Id left it on the night before on MTV Base, and when I turned on this morning it said"satellite signal is not being recieved". Assuming that it was caused by heavy rain during the night and knowing that rain often effects MTV reception worse I left it as it was. When I came home this evening the no signal message wasnt there, rather a blue screen with the search and scan banner on the screen bottom. I checked the number 6 option under services and it said I had no signal and it wasnt locked. So I did what I usually do when I think its been blown off course by rain and wind-went outside and nudged it slightly with a broom(its worked many times before;) )Still no luck,so I plugged out the digibox(IIRC it wouldnt turn off with the remote at this stage). Plugged it back in,clicked the on button on the remote control, nothing. The red light that flashes when you use the remote flashed, but the red off light didnt turn green. I tried a forced download, but after half an hour it seemed to be going nowehere so I plugged it out again(yes,I know i was defying the forced download on screen advice). So now the box is plugged in but theres nothing happening, and Im going mad being stranded with terrestrial tv. What can I do?
And AFAIK there was no severe rain last night.

Ive searched the archives re this pace tuner thing and it seems dreadfully silimiar to my predicament. How much would a local tv shop(the place we got it from)charge,or should I try the"fix my box or Ill cancel your asses"trick to sky HQ that some in old threads mentioned?
Im going to try some amateur DIY on it(not opening her up now, just forced downloads etc)but it looks like it will be fruitless. So how much would this sh1te cost? We have the box since around Halloween of 2000. Three years for a piece of machinery like that is pretty sh1te,considering the tv its connected to still has brilliant picture after 14 odd years.
They just dont build em like they used to......

If I was to have to end up paying what cost am I looking at?

I'd go down the cancel or get it fixed route and see how you go. You've been with them ($ky) over 3 years. Got to be worth a go!!!
Tell us how you get on!!!.:) :):)

A forced download when the tuner is faulty can do more damage to the box. download should never be attempted unless you're sure the box is receiving a good signal. i get many boxes for repair that originally had a tuner fault and now also have the flash memory chips ruined because a forced download was tried which sent currupt info to the chips.
your tuner is almost definetly faulty

Is there someone you know who has Sky that would let you test your box on their working dish? Just to confirm that it's the tuner. Chances are you've misaligned the dish by hitting it with a brush!

You could try these guys if you want it repaired...

    www.satcure.co.uk

I think you could expect to pay €100ish to get a tuner replaced

you could try a borrowed dish or a sat meter on the end of your cable to test your signal etc. - but it does sound like an electonic problem.

Try letting the box cool down ie. unplug, they run just as hot on standby.

It might be cheaper buying a second hand box, not sure what the story is on renewing it's card or getting a new one.
