There are serveral Italian channels & SKY Italy

Anyone know what decoders / CAM are needed and where to get a card ?
eg: what will a VIACCESS get me.

This would be mainly for Seria A Football.

You'll need a Sky Italia Box and subscription, works much the same was as the Sky UK Box, they use the same Videoguard encryption system. The box alone is about 500 Euros.

Italy sports two fairly large packages with 40-50 channels each, both from Hotbird, but with different encoding systems. D+ uses Mediaguard, Stream uses Irdeto.

Stream and D+ have merged into Sky Italia, the Sky Italia Box is as "controlled" shall we say, as the Sky Box, so no a Sky Digibox won't work in Italy.

Ah that also scuppers Plan-B using an Irdeto cam in a FTA box
Might just wait until people have finished their first year and get a second hand digibox then.

Just have to stick with the 60+ FTA channels then...

@Capn Midnight - you can get plenty of Seria A (as well as spanish/portuguese/French/English) live games on Sport TV & C+ Deporte 1/2/3 on Hispasat 30West - which is nagra encrypted (although its expected they will change encryption over the next few months).

I have looked here and it seems to be a modified sky digibox.

20 euro for the basic sub sounds good. I would like to get this for my self at home but don't know any one in Italy.

By the way can any one speak / read Italian tell me what you need to do to subscribe.

An Italian Address, phone number and phone line - it's much the same set up as the UK Sky System. You can get a box though companies which will register your sub etc, much the same way you can get Sky UK abroad, but of course you pay an "admin" fee on top of the sub for this. The basic sub wouldn't really be of use to you though if it's footie you are after.

Well there are quite a few Italian FTA channels, which you can pick up.

RAI 1,2,3 (BBC) are FTA
Rete 4, 5,6 (ITN) are FTA
Sardinia Uno/ Due / Videolina (TG4) are FTA

so unless you are looking for Sport or Film Premieres or certain live events most Italian terresterial TV is FTA
