I understand there is a few people here who have played the free entry hold'em tourney on Thursady's at the Fitzwilliam. A few freinds and myself are interested in going this week. I was hoping someone could tell me if it's ok to sign up as a member and then register for the tournament on the same night. Also is there a restriction on the amount of players?? Would we need to get there early to avoid dissapointment? How many players usually play for example and is it sh!t hard to win? Any other info would be appriciated. Thanks.

You can register the first time that you visit - it is free and takes about 5 minutes max. You also get a free €10 bet. Registration for the Thursday night game starts at 9pm so you would need to be there before then - as far as I know everyone who registers will play.

It's unlikely you wont be accomodated. Most often the tourney gets going by 9.30 and you can arrive late and buy-in for a certain period of time.
The first 90 minutes of the tourney you can rebuy (buy more chips if you have lost all your existing chips) for €10 and then you can top up (get a top up of chips to add to your existing chips) for another €10 at the end of the rebuy period.
I'm not a big fan of rebuy tourneys but it's a necessary evil for the casino to generate some prize money (in the case of thursdays it's to pay for at least 1 entry to the big tourney on the last thursday of the month)
It's not **** hard but there are some good players and some bad players. Most of the better players are unlikely to take part in this one but some might if they have nothing better to do.
Rebuy periods are notoriously loose and be prepared to go all-in at least once. You can play rebuy periods tight but I don't recommend it because you might survive through the rebuy period only to find guys with giant stacks of chips against your piddling one.
Your best bet is to decide how much you're willing to spend. For example say you said you were willing to spend €20. The I would keep €10 of that for the top-up at the end of the rebuy period and the other tenner for a rebuy. If you lose your chips and have to rebuy then you must tighten up and try to survive to the end of the rebuy period. If you were spending €30 then you could afford 2 rebuys and play looser for that much longer etc.
Finally after the rebuy period it's freeze-out time (I call it proper poker) so it's time to play your normal tournament game (if you have one).
I've played 2 of these free tourneys and both times there were only about 20 players which gives you a good chance if you play a good game.

Thx for the info, I'll be heading in tomorrow so, i would like to know how much worth of chips everyone starts with and when you re-buy do you get the same amount of "starting" chips. And let me get this straight, you can only get a re-buy if you are out of chips and you can only top-up at the end of the re-buy peroid? I'm a cheap-skate so will be relying on my skill to keep me in contention and then maybe a €10 top-up at the end of the re-buy period. One last question if you were to get close to the end how long will it take. Do they bump up the blinds alot to make it go quicker for example?

If I remember correctly it's 750 in chips with blinds starting at 25/50. The chips you get when you rebuy increase each time you rebuy based on the accepted fact that chips value decreases in a tourney as time goes on.
You can only rebuy when you are totally out of chips. The dealer will normally wait for you to get your next lot of chips and you remain in the game. At the end of the rebuy period you can rebuy if you are out of chips and you can top-up under any circumstances.
I finshed 6th both times I played and left the table at 1am approx. so I imagine it went on for another couple of hours at least.
Just bear in mind that if you aim to avoid rebuying then it's tougher than normal. Most of the other players don't mind going all-in on weak cards because they know they can rebuy. This means you need very strong hands if you dont want to have to rebuy not to mention that even with strong hands you could be outdrawn by guys who will call you, again as I have said because they know they can rebuy.
