Anyone aware of somewhere in dublin that will swap a failing laser on a ps2 (it's out of warranty) it's starting to give disc errors and isnt liking DVD's anymore. Smiths do a swapout for a recon unit for €100 but i was wondering would a repair be cheaper.

have you tried a lens cleaning disk from game? You will pay the same price for a lazer replacement as you would for a reconditioned unit, but you could open it up yourself if cleaning disk does not work, and have a look at the lens - hopefully a wipe with a cotton bud with methalyted spirits on the lens will solve the problem as depending where you keep your ps2 it could be full of dust.....

Also, the laser may be misaligned. Check here for info on realignment if you fancy some DIY! ;)
