Duffer, Keano, Reid...Ireland in general

Are these three players really Irish? ;)

Its great to see the Duffer scoring, all the Chelsea fans are now starting to see who their best player is. Also, the France manager said he tried to sign him at Lyon and he will be worried about him when Ireland face the French.

Keano got a hatrick against his old club Wolves and wasn't in the mood for any celebrations. Once he's scoring on a regular basis and playing his best Spurs will be winning a lot more matches overall.

And Andy Reid got another goal yesterday to make it 10 league goals for him this season. The Notts Forest chairman said that if Forest are not in a realistic position for a promotion challenge by Christmas, they will have to sell Reid in the January transfer window. Birmingham are been linked with him but I doubt Steve Bruce will pay 4 million for him as he wasted 5.5 million on another division 1 star, Clinton Morrison. Duff didn't hit top form til about 22 so we could have another star in Reid.

Since it looks like Kerr will start playing Duff on the left wing again and both Reid and Miller are guaranteed a place in the Irish 11 if they live up to the expectations, that means that if we are to play with 4-4-2 we only have one place left to choose between Holland, Kavanagh, Delap and Healy. Since Duff, Reid and Miller are all very attack minded players we will need some protection for them going forward.

I would prefer to play 4-5-1 but a lot of people are saying that Keane is not suited to been played as a loan striker, why?It would be the same as him up front with Connolly, Doc or Morrison because Miller, Reid and Duff will be up forward most of the time anyway.

    I'd go with this midfield:

    Reid
    Duff
    Delap
    Kavanagh/Holland
    Miller

    Bring on the French.:)

Birmingham City supporters can't stop saying good things about Cunningham, they say he's in the form of his life.

I think the absence of cunningham was very much felt in the switzerland match..

Well I don't know much about the up-and-coming stars but its encouraging that Richard Dunne has regained his place in Man City's side. While he may not be the answer to our problems he is certainly handy to have around.

And also I believe John O'Shea can only get better and in a year or so (possibly by the time we play the French) he'll be a much tougher player. This season will teach him a thing or two I feel.

Yeah he did. Saw the match. Came very close to scoring with a volley from the edge of the box (Yes this is Richard Dunne we're talking about!!!!!!!!!).

It was interesting actually cause he has never scored in the Premiership but has four for Ireland

None of the following players should ever be selected for Ireland again IMO:

    Gary Breen
Gary Doherty (unless were in serious trouble)
    Matt Holland
    Mark Kinsella
    Ian Harte
    Kevin Kilbane
    Lee Carsley

We have some great talent coming through at the moment, Miller, Reid etc. Why not use them instead of the useless ones listed?

My team for the WC Qualifiers:
    GK: Given

    DL: Finnan
    DR: Carr
    DC: Cunningham
    DC: O'Shea

    ML: Duff
    MR: S. Reid
    CM: Healy
    CM: Miller

    AMC: A. Reid

    SC: Keane.

I'd go for that same team except i'd have Holland in there instead of Healy, we need some experiance in midfield and let's face it Healy was crap against the Swiss.

We wouldn't get away with this team selection as all the midfielders are too attack minded. Rory Delap is in superb form for Southampton and he is could be used as a holding midfielder and let the lads go forward as he does at Soutampton.

Also, Steven Reid is ****e, lets face it. He isn't in very good form for his club and the same for his country. I am a Celtic fan but I think Kavanagh is an awful lot better than Miller and he does not get enough praise. Miller is also a right winger and usually plays there for Celtic so take Steven Reid out and Kavanagh in and switch Kav with Miller and it would be alright. I still think Delap should be in there for Healy though.

I read it in the Herald or something. I've been googling and can't find any links but i'll let you know if I do.

Healy was bad against the Swiss alright, but at least he doesn't go missing from the game for a good 80 minutes. There is no way Holland should be playing. Delap would be a good choice either for the midfield roll.

Eirebhoy, yeah they are decent enough options you've pointed out there. All I have to say is that I don't want to ever see the likes of Carsley, Holland or Kinsella ever get into the squad ever again. Never mind the team.

Healy was injured playing against Coventry yesterdy and he might have a broken leg which could keep him out for the whole season so he might not ge a chance to stake his claim for Ireland now.

Hmm... You'd never know, he could come back and play twice as well as he is at the moment. As happens so very often in football nowadays.
