SkyPlus upgrade on Irish cards

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I have Sky World on an an Irish Sky card here in the UK. I want to upgrade to SkyPlus. I have a friend who can do the installation and I can buy a Sky Plus box off the internet.

I have read some conflicting opinions about whether or not the box has to be attached to a phone line to activate the card in the SkyPlus box. Some sites say it has to be attached for five minutes. This would of course present me with difficulties as it would be obvious to Sky that the box and card were in the UK.

I've had the system for 18 months so I'm well outside the 12 months compulsory phone line attachment. I was hoping that all I would have to do is to put my existing card in the new SkyPlus box and get a friend to ring Sky from Ireland to give them the card and box details and to ask them to switch the card over to the SkyPlus box and to activate the recording features of the box.

Can anyone who has done the upgrade in Ireland tell me exactly what I need to do.

No phone connection needed, not in my case anyhow.
Just ring them and say you are in "work" and want the wife to record something so you can have it when you get home.
It's a "must -see" programme for you.
The wife has arthritis and under doctors orders, under no circumstances is she allowed to bend down to plug in the phone....
you will of course be most upset and be downgrading your sub if they cannot sort this out for you ( you wont but... tell them that if they are humming and hawing...)

/ dammit Granny spilled hot coco on the normal video and it hasn't worked since...
    get the drift :p

p.s try not to laugh when relaying this, it helps...
