    What happened to this lass?

i have her two albums (Tidal and When the Pawn.....) but theyre both pretty old now. I checked her site (www.fiona-apple.com) and they aint been updated since the last single off When the pawn.... which would lead me to believe she was dropped or something, but id expect that she was picked up somewhere else, i thought she was pretty good, a shame to see a talent wasted.

Hmm, I'm in the same position as you (2 albums, nothing since). The only thing I'd be thinking about her getting dropped - would the record company still pay for the website hosting?

BTW, "Never Is A Promise" - great great track.

    edit - cause: tiredness

Ah, Ok sorry, she was. =/
Sorry, I though you meant "Never Is A Promise" was (well, it is a cover album after all...)

    what? she sung with Cash?

yeah both albums have some great stuff on them, it'd be a shame if shes given up or something.... i know she was going out with David Blaine for a while, maybe he shazamed her and she dissapeared (wanna get a room???)

seriously though, about the site, if she was dropped maybe they keep the site up as a sales thing, it does have a shop link.
also it has a forum going on it, maybe there are enough fans to give it hits to make it worthwhile

    cheers for that
Add to these musicians some guest vocals on Bridge Over Troubled Water from Fiona Apple (a Dido of her day, whose fifteen minutes in the limelight (When The Prawn) passed mostly unnoticed),

is that 'When the Prawn' comment an intentional insult to the girl or just a mistake?? me wonders.

    neither insult nor error.

erm ok, its not a great insult if it was supposed to be, it could easily be an error, but its certainly not a critical comment, as a critic wouldnt state their case through petty digs like that

well id be surprised if they did, thats not to say that silly name calling doesnt happen with critics.
so you think it was an attempt at an insult?

flogen, what's you're problem? you're a fan with an infatuation for fiona, i'm not. i was reviewing johnny cash, not her. i made a passing comment that isn't wide of the mark. she was the dido of her day and despite a lot of press, not a lot of people bought the disc. you obviously did. i did. but not enough others. you want to see it as an insult, see it as an insult. you want to see it as an error, see it as an error. i really don't care. but just do me the favour and quit digging, you don't have to leap to fiona's defence every time you see something you disagree with being said about her.

sorry, you missed my original point, i wasnt talking about the sentence made, that was a critical comment, i was talking about the fact that he called her second album 'when the pr awn hits...' rather than 'when the pawn hits...'.

also enough people did buy her album as she is currently working on a follow up:
    http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=18840

also i do not have an infatuation, thank you very much, nor am i jumping to anyones defence. I was merely wondering what had happened to a once 'next big think', i was also wondering if the reviewer linked was trying to get a sly dig by re-naming her album with a poor pun or if it was a simple error.

She won a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance "Criminal" and was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Rock Song ; The video for "Criminal" won a MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography and was also nominated for Best Female Video ; Tidal - 3x platinum in the u.s. ; When the pawn - gold in the u.s. and still counting...

    I dunno...15 minutes? hardly.

she almost quit...but is working on her third album with John Brion.
Its been pushed back until February last I heard.

she's a bit dodge at times and can be a bit of a sap (MTV Award speech etc.),
but damn she's got a beautiful voice and some amazing songs.

yeah, Tidal was abit too much whining for my liking, not fully formed but had plenty of potential, as was proven with When the Pawn...... i cant remember the speech you mentioned, but i have always gotten the impression she was abit up herself or something. Still, looking forward to the new album
I keep hearing that she had a wierd childhood, what happened to her? was she raped or something? I remember hearing she was, but i think they got her mixed up with Tori Amos (which is easy to do)

I dunno..I could never confuse them. their music is quite different.
Fiona Apple has a deep jazzy voice and Tori Amos has more of an icy cold high voice.
both great though...Tori is a far better pianist...she's amazing.

both were raped. Fiona Apple was a good bit younger I think.
Tori Amos was raped by a fan after a gig...she took a lift with him..or something.

She was raped? Jesus... never gave that impression in interviews or anything, just a bit of shock.

Pity she has such gap between her albums, love so many of her songs.

Can't watch the video to "Criminal" ever again. Damn

i just meant mixed up cos theyre both pianists and female solo singer/songwriters, they are brilliant in their own right, thats for sure, although i havent heard as much amos as id like to.
