AirPort card unrecognised

I got a kind gift of an AirPort card for the G3 PowerBook (Pismo, FireWire, 400MHz, bronze keyboard, sexy Sex-in-the-City looks, soon to be for sale) but it refuses to recognise it.

I've downloaded and installed software, and taken out and put back the card a bunch of times, making sure the aerial was plugged in; I've zapped the PRAM. It still stands there like a 1930s republican, refusing to recognise the court.

Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

Yoohoo! Got it working! Or at least recognised - now I have to take it to somewhere where there's a wireless network and try it out!

For others' use: I was plugging the aerial into the wrong place - the correct place is the hole in the *centre* of the back. And the extensions were disabled - probably because I routinely turn off all unnecessary extensions.
