Echo and the Bunnymen sang Killing Moon if that's the song you're talking about.

Yeah, it's a great song. I first heard it at the end of some program on TV. I thought it was REM to, as it sounded really like Michael Stipe on vocals. I remembered the line "Children waiting for the day they feel good. Happy birthday, happy birthday". Googled with REM first and found Gary Jules coming up a lot, Kazaa did the rest.

Still listening to it a lot.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I put the song on. I knew it had to be about Gary Jules - a beautiful sad song. And yeah, I also thought it was Michael Stipe at first.

I first heard it at the end of some program on TV.

The program was Smallville, where I heard it first, luckily the Smallville site list the songs they use in every episode - and albums they come from - on their website, so I was able to track back to Donnie Darko.
Personally I thought it sounded like Neil Young. Because I had difficulty sourcing the soundtrack I went and got DD on DVD, very good film.

    Most of their back catalogue...

Actually, films are a great place to find unusual covers. Echo & the Bunnymen did a great version of The Doors' People are Strange for The Lost Boys a long time back.

there was a piece on Sky News last night about the song Mad World been a strong contender for the xmas number one. Apparantly the odds on it were 50-1 a few weeks ago but now have been slashed to 4-1.. Loads of radio stations in England have been getting requests to play it.

Being a big Bunnymen fan, I can recommend the following tunes:

    Heads Will Roll
    Bring On The Dancing Horses
    Villiers Terrace
    The Cutter
    The Game...

Aw screw it, just get Ocean Rain!

To name a few, but avoid their cover of People Are Strange. You'll probably recognise that from being on The Lost Boys soundtrack.

Gary Jules will be on the radio with Ray some time this morning. Not that that gives you much time.

Seriously now. It has to be the worst movie to have graced the screen.

    I loved the movie.

It laughs in the face of 'normality'

mad world is by far the best track on the soundtrack.

You need a really good sound system to listem to this soundtrack.

It's a great song. I've been humming it to myself since I saw Donnie Darko for the second time recently.

Its out but its not the one Kif mentioned. It only has the Gary Jules song and the other songs are by Michael Andrews. No Echo and the Bunnymen etc.

I don't think they ever got the licence to release them on soundtrack because they couldn't afford it.
The only place you can get Kif's one is www.amazon.com I think.

Actually just had a look and the soundtrack has been pulled. All they're selling now is the score. Same as the cd-wow one.

I got the DD score in HMV Belfast about 14 months ago after seeing the movie in the IFC

Disgracefully no shop in Dublin stocked it at the time
