Alright, i know this is a relaxed hang out, I know its where we go to forget work etc.
    But...what about charity?

I am posting to see what peoples intentions are towards the Strike Force Santa appeal (read DeVore's Announcements) (or click here )
I am trying to get as many people as possible to donate,
-Money (either collected Cash or there will be a bank account set up shortly, or you can even buy from the Shopping list on Amazon URL=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/wishlists/santas%5Fstrike%5Fforce%40yahoo.ie/202-0476263-4831845]Amazon List Here[/URL)
-First / Second hand books (good condition only, they will be presents for sick children),
-Consoles and accessories (no Atari Jaguar's)
    -Good childrens toys.
Anything that would be a suitable donation for kids so ill they have to spend their Christmas in hospital.

So folks, what say ye people of After Hours?

    I have an idea....

Why not get people to donate some goods to Boards, then sell them off in a special for sale raffle and buy some stuff that kids would like.. Stuff like old consoles and cd collections and so on..

I have been looking out for old consoles for myself. I would be willing to buy them and the money towards them could go towards buying newer consoles like the PS2 or an Xbox that kids would appreciate more..

    I pledged 10 today already :o)

If someone wants the job of gathering cash/stuff from this lot, your welcome to the job. I'm already got 2-3 forums to look after. But I can take this one if no wants the job.

The auction idea has been mentioned on the Strike Force Santa Forum. If you want to organise it, please do.

We dont have time to do it right now but its something I definitely think would be good in the (near) future.

I'd say Feb/March we'll be doing one.... it takes time to gather the donations and what not...

Tom, some logistical help would be most appreciated. I'd like to spread the word to some other Irish bulletin boards and start a similar campaign. Could you pass on details of the beneficiaries and how they selected - are you going through a charity or charities or do you have contacts already e.g. Crumlin Children's hostpital etc...

Be very interested in carrying the idea further afield. The Amazon idea is good, but I'm wondering if the likes of Smyths could be persuaded to participate and have the money spent stay in the country and get the best of both worlds so to speak.

    Mojo.

I don't mean to be harsh but it's possibly cos a lot of posters don't care?

It isn't, I'll be making a small donation myself, hopefully along with a box of useful books for em too.

Brilliant idea, I'd love to see the kids faces when these complete strangers arrive and dish out the pressies :D
