One outstanding issue before mass sky+ uptake

I am sure like many others out there, I am very tempted to bite the bullet and purchase sky+. One of the two reasons ( dual record) that had preventing me from purchasing sky+ has been introduced. The other is the lack of ITV on the Irish EPG. I currently view ITV via a UK (Solus P2) FTV card married to my Digibox. Does anyone know can this card be also married to a sky plus box.

If so what is required to do this ?

Will I have the ability to record ITV on my SKY+ box using my FTV card ?

A self install of sky+ does not bother me. Does anyone know what is the "off the shelf " price of a sky+ box and quad LNB either south or north of the border?

What is the most cost effective way of going from a sky Digibox setup to a sky + setup ? Self install, going through sky directly or a local independent installer.

I noticed that the discussion of UTV appearing on the Irish EPG has gone very quite again in the last few days. Looks like this may have just been a marketing ploy for Christmas ?

A card can only be married to one box at a time, but as the card has already been activated for free2view you can watch those channels on any Sky or Skyplus box you put it into.

No. While the FTV card is in the skyplus box you will not be able to pause live tv, record anything or even watch any recorded programs. The recording service is part of the Sky services package and only works when the sky card is inserted.

As bkearns says, Sky+ is almost perfect at this stage. However the lack of ITV, Ch4 and the FTA BBC channels on the EPG is the one major remaining issue that we have left. I am going to write to Sky (snail mail) asking them for clarification on the UTV issue and also to point out that the digital BBCs are now on NTLs EPG in Dublin so they can't really have any excuse not to put them of theirs.

By the way, I am using my FTV card in a digibox next to the Sky+ box, but rarely watch it as I use the EPG all of the time due to Sky+.

Is it possible then with a regular Sky subscription (not plus), to have all the sky channels plus all the ITV, C4 channels etc... if you get a FTA card from the UK ? Does the machine only take one card at a time ? In which case, do I need to swap cards when I want to see ITV ?

    no

yep..at present the only way to get the UK terrestrials (excluding BBCs) is with a FTV card from the UK.

yep... annoying but the only way to do it :)
