it has to be a nice tight rack as well...

apparently the resulting break is better

The easiest way to remember is starting at the top of the triangle and moving around the edge just keep alternating the colours (or spot / stripe). Then put the black in its usual position and throw in the last 2 balls in any order.

    ive always used

    ----Y
    ---R R
    --Y B Y
    -R Y R R
    Y R Y R Y

never used the other one cos i see no order or pattern to it

that link is slightly wrong but it doensnt matter as long as there not a ball of the same colour in each corner
    r
    ----y-r
    ---r-b-y
    --y-r-y-r
    -r-y-r-y-y

easy way to remember is: arc of yellows on the right and two pinning the red on the left

Yeah I use this one, but it can be the opposite too. Whichever goes in first basically I work off.

I used to rack 'em like angelofdeath and makavelli, until I discovered that this method wasnt used by any official pool body.

There are two official pool tours or circuits in the UK. One uses the "World" rules, the other uses the Bapto (also called EUKPF) rules. The Irish Pool Association uses the World rules.

The link posted by tuxx is correct according to the World rules.

The rack posted by DMT is correct according to the Bapto rules.

Interestingly the US rules are far more relaxed. You just rack them randomly, the only conditions being that the black must be in the middle as usual, and a stripe must be on one corner and a solid (or "spot" as it was called in my local before it changed to yellows and reds) on the other corner.

Too much time? I did that in under two minutes...
It's easy when you know how and have the balls* to do it.
