Iron Maiden the aftermath

Brilliant gig. They really are great performers, dare I say it, even better than MetallicA  . Most people got over the union jack waving fairly quickly, it is just part of the show after all (they are british of course). Could have been worse, they could have burned another Irish flag!

I was fortunate enough to have back stage passes, Bruce eventually came down, had a few words with him. Won't bore you with the details, suffice to say I asked him about coming back to Dublin, 'We'd love to come back, all up to the agents now mate, if the sales were good enough n'all of that'. The point looked fairly full near the end, I reckon they'll be back (even if they don't get invited to the 'festival').

That was second best performance I've ever seen by a band
    :D

    Ow. Even my eyebrows hurt.

F*ck me pink and call me Rosie, but that was a good gig.

I managed to get about 10 rows from the front before they started, then when the crowd started moving I was suddenly pushed up to 1 row from the rails, right in front of the speakers on the right. Not too shabby. The large amount of posing teeny-boppers were a problem, when the crowd started pushing their small size meant the filled in all the gaps and made it even harder to breathe/move.

It really was uncalled for to boo at the union jack for the trooper. Those that did entirely missed the point of the song. I, for one, cheered.

I think Janek tried to pick a fight with me, or someone close to me.

There was a crazy short woman behind me that kept trying to climb up my back. She nearly strangled me at one point, felt very dizzy. She may also have tried to dryhump my leg...

The setlist I saw beforehand didn't include Fear of the dark. It was a lovely surprise to hear it announced. It's a wierd and wonderful experience to happily scream the songs in the face of a total stranger and have them happily scream them back at you. :)

Paschendale f*cking ROCKED. The barbed wire, the screaming shells, Bruce in military coat and helmet (amazing he didn't pass out...)... A great live song. Journeyman was good too. Catchy song that let me get my breath back before NOTB and Run To The Hills. :)

And now we have a drumskin signed by Nicko in our sitting room. :) Hit my brother on the head. :D

And to top it all off, they said they'd rather like to play at Slane. We must bug the relevent people constantly until they invite the guys over!

Jeebus, that was a long post. I had an amazing night. I hope I can see them play again sometime, I really do.

Also, funeral for a friend quoted Manowar! What more could you want? :)

Heavy metal or no metal at all! Wimps and posers leave the hall! There seemed to be a lot of Manowar fans there. Good stuff! :D

Excellent excellent gig, thoroughly enjoyed it. God shoved right up the front (about 4 rows from the barrier) with Kharn and another almost equally large and hairy fellah. After a while we had to get out of the crush and get a drink... and while we were outside THEY PLAYED FEAR OF THE DARK!!!!!

Came back in, saw the end, saw the encore. Awesome gig.

Still preferred Metallica in the RDS (despite the cock suckage of Linkin Park). Was hoping Maiden would have some pyros but I guess that may be a problem when the gig's indoors.

I'll post more about it later, once I get my pics uploaded.
    I have quite a few. ;)

Such performers. They have far more energy than most of the popular bands today. Bruce was leaping about all over the place, and I'm amazed Janek didn't really f*ck his guitar's tuning up with all the crazy sh*t he did with it! Trying to mess with Adrian's tuning knobs mid-song was good for a laugh. :) They're all on the wrong side of 40, and still giving it everything they have. And they made it look so EASY...

Also, that's the best version of Fear Of The Dark I've ever heard.

God, I just can't stop, it was so very very good...

There is only one thing that can be said about last night - OHMYGODTHATWASBLOODYBRILLIANT!!!!!!!

I loved every minute of the gig - hell, even my non-metal loving wife was impressed!! That's gotta tell you something. :D

Brilliant concert, I loved it :D

I like their new album a lot, so i was very happy with the setlist, it didn't matter to me too much that there were some classics missing. I thought Paschendale was the best tune on the night.

I was sitting up on the balcony at the right and Nicko threw a drumstick up. The guy in front of me got it, I was afraid to go for it in case I knocked the other guy over the edge!

Amazing, really amazing. They're the most energetic group of 40-something year olds I've ever seen, the best live band I've seen. Excellent :D I really hope they come back here sometime.

Great gig last night. Couldn't fault it at all. All the new stuff off of Dance Of Death sounded awesome and fitted in well with all the classics. My favourite songs of the night were fear of the dark and paschendale. Neck is still sore from headbanging!!!

Really hope they come back again

    @Bard.

Pyros in the Point is entirely possible. Mad Fireballs and Fireworks and Firecrackers and other fire things at the Nickelback (don't laugh) concert.

Wouldn't have minded seeing Maiden. Only gettin into them now! Shame I know, missin out all these years. Ow well, they should be touring well into their 80s so I'm sure I'll get to see em!!!! :p

Metallica did the same back in '97 during One and (iirc) King Nothing

Can't remember if they did any for the 99 gig. I don't recall any

OW my brain, my back my wallet. ****ing amazing gig. I seem to be missing a lot of songs but im sure I was there for them and what I do remember it was unbelievable. One of the best live shows I have ever seen. Truely great so it was and Run to the Hills at the end was amazing as was the rest. I liked the whole castle backdrop it looked great. Met a few of ye there apologies if was a bit odd but I was ever so mangled :)

Brilliant gig. Sure they missed out a few great songs, but with so many fantastic songs it was bound to happen.
My only problem was the crushed, warm, humid atmosphere of the point. I was fading in and out of consciousness towards the end. Everyone in the crowd was bang on though.
All in all, a ****ing scorcher. I seriously hope they come back, and maybe play an outdoor gig, with better support (My god Funeral for a friend were such bollocks).

Well I thought it was alright.

They were good but when I saw them around 12 years ago they were awesome.

They played too much of the new album and not enough of the classics. Was nearly going into despair totally and then they pulled "Fear of the Dark", "Run to the Hills" and "Number of the Beast" out of the hat which regained my sanity! It was noticable from near the back (I had a fuked up leg) that the crowd really got going when they played the classic Maiden stuff.

    Gandalf.

(god I'd love to see them play Slane with a setlist of classics along with AC/DC and Metallica, ahh I can dream !!!!)

No 2 minutes to midnight, my alltime no 1 fave Maiden song. Ah well can't please everyone. Amazing concert otherwise. Who cares if he waves a union jack. They are british.

well good grief, I must be getting cynical in my old age. That was simply an average gig at best. I have seen Maiden plenty of times before, but Monday in the Point was "meh" at best.

Granted the lads had the energy and did indeed pump up the crowd - but dammit I could have saved myself 40 yo-yos and spent the nite at home listening to the cds instead.

the flag issue - was quite hilarious, completely showing off the lack of intellect of any Maiden fan and only givin fuel to the pretentious mobs that would boo everything that is British. I mean christ I didnt hear any boos when the damn screen revealed the Trooper itself.

I also have to admit, Bruce's panderings to the crowd was typical MTV-spawned crap - even though he blasted them for not playing the new video - by this time, I was sorely tempted to go home. He was losing in the crowd after the Trooper and just like sheep, most people in the crowd reacted in the same way - boo, yay, boo, love maiden, boo, yay

Personally I felt embaressed at the gig, if this was typical behaviour for Maiden when they play Dublin, I would gladly endorse they stay away for another 13 years - especially when you get a lot (and there were a lot) of dicks booing them for doing something integral to their setlist.

All in all, I am looking forward to Entombed and Nile, no bull****, just a damn good session

yeh i know, MTV obviously influenced him slagging off the state of current music channels, especially when he called MTV w***ers! muppet.

I thought they wer excellent, although i would have liked to seen more Evil That Men Do and Out Of The Silent Planet than Rain Maker and Journey Man.

Were people booing the union jack? i didnt hear anyone, and i certainly didnt care.

all in all, well worth the 3 and a half hour trip down
    :D:D:D

Check my photopost for some piccies of the gig...

Unfortunatly a lot of them didn't turn out very well at all, but that's to be expected.

Awww.... Shame your digital camera can't manage some tinny mono sound as well, it seems a bit wrong looking at it in silence.

'Twas good. He sang a chorus low as Blaze would, and another one an octave higher. Didn't pay much attention to what he was doing, because Steve Harris had wandered over to my end and was screaming encouragement at us... :)
