With the new TV mini-series starting soon on Sci-Fi I started reminiscing about the good old days of this show and found a cool dvd boxset of them here.

I think I'll get myself another Christmas Present.

What was the kid's robotic dog called? And why, for that matter, did all american series of the era require such inane sidekicks?

The dog thing was called a dagget (not sure about the spelling).

Apparently Glen A. Larson who devised the show isn't happy with the remake, his chief gripe being that the Cylons are more human-like and are among the actual humans.

They probably thought it looked futuristic. I always think of it as the R2D2 factor. Unless anyone else can provide an earlier example of a popular movie or TV series making a useless sidekick out of a disused trashcan.

OT I know, but speaking of inane side-kicks what about BJ and the Bear, where the bear was a chimp? Maybe it was a riff on Clyde from the Clint Eastwood films?
